Nerded out yet?? :)

This is my first craigslist hunt and find. Listed for only $5! Certainly not comparable to the recent @MegaTon44 find of Le Paulson Noirs, but I'm happy with the value, and they seem like high quality ceramic customs.

I didn't know exactly the origin of the images, but they piqued my inner nerd interest, being a big fan of video games (past and present), D&D, etc., I could tell they were related to the fantasy world.

After inquiring, the seller responded:

"It's a custom set ordered by some employees of Blizzard Entertainment about 12 years ago or so. There are probably only about 30 or so of these in existence.

It's based on the game Warcraft 3.

The images on the chips represent the races in the game.

Human
Orc
Undead
Night Elf
Goblin"

I was sold. All chips for $5. I spent way more on gas to get there!

They have a good weight to them and seem high quality. Again, I'm sure these are nearly "dice chips" in some minds out there, but I like 'em :D

Yeah, I'm assuming it's a pretty small niche where the ven diagragm circles of "poker chip collector" and "World of Warcraft nerd" overlap :)

I have a raid in 2 hours. :) I would think eBay would be the best place to get some good money for these. The market will be pretty good but it wont be a poker chip collector. If I wanted a wow chip it would involve p5woody gear and cpc. On the low end I would think you could get $100 out of these possibly double that. Nerds will pay good money for this stuff. Living in parents basement=extra money for wow stuff.

Awesome! I'm sure you are right, especially as WOW gains acceptance and more widespread popularity. He said they all paid over $100 for the sets originally, so I bet you're right about getting at least that on eBay. Good luck on the raid (y)

If the truth be told I've wiped a few raids because I was tabbed out on PCF looking at classifieds. Start your price on the chips at a very high price I would say around $400 and maybe put a best offer. Let them sit a while. I picked up a couple john deere sets for $40 bucks each at an estate sale. Trust me they were junky chips. I sold them on eBay for $300(300 chip set) and $350(500 chip set). Remember you can always lower your price.

Wow has pretty much been on a decline for the last ten years. Its almost at its lowest point. It just so happens that this last expansion(3 months old) is incredible and it's bringing a lot of players back.

Edit: What does the top of the case look like?

Ha! Well I'm not looking to sell them just quite yet. I really do like them! But that's good to know.

That's what a meant about it sort of reviving with the recent expansion.

The case is just the typical aluminum case.

Nice colours for a non-denom set and the CI watermark tells me they were made by Chipco. 500 Chipco's for $5?!? Nice!

Is that what that means? I was wondering. They seemed like good quality and feel of nice ceramics I've seen, but I'm new to all this, and admittedly, couldn't identify them as chipcos off the bat. Is that common knowledge? Chipco customs have CI watermark?

Looks like you are right. Cool! Thank you for the info! I had asked the guy selling them if he knew what company manufactured them, but he just said he got in on a group buy with some people at work. Guess I got more value than I realized initially. And I thought I liked them before I knew they were Chipcos.

They instantly made me think Chipco ceramics, because of their trademark white ring on the face edge. Custom ceramic are a far cry from dice chips.

Nice find!

Yeah, I was exaggerating a little bit with that comparison in addition to showing my ignorance, but we all start somewhere

I will take a little credit in that they did catch my eye for more than just the artwork, looking like Chipco and other quality ceramics I'd seen pics of, which also added to my interest in the listing.

Nice score - custom Chipco ceramics cost well over a $1 each back in the day. (y)

Same high-end ceramics chips used in many casinos. NOT dice-chip quality.

I regret insinuating that they are dice chip quality, when clearly they are not (y)
Seeing the original pics and at the time of purchase, I had some hopes they would be from a high quality ceramics company, but did not have the expertise to confirm. Very thankful for experts on this forum to bring years of knowledge to us newbies. :)
