Who's actually had clay chips damaged in play? (1 Viewer)

Is this why you need 4 singles of that chip?

Also guess which 3-4 (maybe one of these was already like this I dunno) rapidly decelerated on concrete.

Luckily I’m just planning on using these with my Bahamia set anyway.
Haha. No. My reserve rack is missing 4 chips. It’s driving me crazy every time I look at it.

Ask @LeLe:

Session end, found a broken soldier in my chip set. :confused I going to get a replacement and use this as a good luck charm / chip capper.

It look like someone must be very hungry and took a bite out of it

@sheikh617 didn't some rough play happen with your solids set at one point? I feel like it resulted in some flea bites but maybe not.
Yeah I’ve had what I consider are premature flea bites from people handling chips roughly. I’m not a fan. I put a lot of money and detail into my rake free poker hosting setup and I absolutely expect the utmost respect from people who use my equipment. Feel that’s a small ask honestly.

Just flea bites, to build character, on CPCs when they fall on the floor.

This thread is inspired by the “chip slamming” thread. A lot of people are concerned that their expensive chips could get damaged during normal or rough play. Maybe this thread will put some people at ease (or maybe it will keep all of us up at night, if there are actually horror stories / pictures.)

But I’ll start. I haven’t had anything close to damage. Not even a flea bite. It’s probably worth mentioning that most of my chips have been leaded Paulsons. Just a few RHCs. One BCC set, no CPC/ASMs. And always played on a padded surface. But so far so good - no cracks, no broken chips, no noticeable damage at all.
I think one things that makes a HUGE difference, at least for me getting pissed off, is whether or not the chips are being slammed on a wood racetrack or on felt. I have a player that slammed a barrel of chips on the wood racetrack of my table. That REALLY pissed me off because it was a barrel of my $50k Winner Club 50mm chips. Now that the racetrack is gone, my PISSED OFF meter is way down, but I still don't tollerate that BS. :)

Honest question from someone who hasnt played with clays at any home game. What does roughly look like? Picking up a barrel and letting the chips fall back into place? Tossing it onto the pot? I dont know how fragile a new set is.

Nah I mean people being asshats and clacking chips together roughly. Dropping them into cup holders (to be fair I have in racetrack cup holders). From just tossing them into pots and shuffling etc etc. they get typical wear but nothing unexpected. I chose my crowd wisely. If I have my childhood ruffians who are going to be drinking, ceramics all day lol. 2-3 chippers in attendance, Paulsons in play.

Splashing the pot is generally considered rude, this consists of throwing, loving or dropping chips from night into the pot onto other chips.
1- this makes your bet very difficult to confirm at times as chips can become mixed, it allows chips to potentially roll or fall out of the zone of play or even leave the table. Since counting accurately with betting is important, splashing is a problem for this reason, it also increases the blunt wear on chips.

If a set is meant to be kept mint for collection value/resale then don't play it or you will get small nicks in the chips as the sharp edges contact hard surfaces. Damage beyond that requires at least some intention to do, other than accidental damage like a chair roll over....cause of said chip falling on the floor? Pot splashing and it rolled/bounced off the table and a player broke the chip backing up his chair to look for the chip. This is why I keep extras of most denoms if I can.

Okay, fair, wasnt sure the distinction. Thanks.

I getcha, I know not to splash the pot, was just wondering what rough handling looked like. Good call though.

At the conclusion of a poker game I was placing the chips in racks and I came across this one chip. The chip had chunk of clay missing. I didn't see how it happened, but I suspect the chip fell off the table and on to the floor.

That is a tragedy. But to be fair, those are relabeled brown derby chips, right? I’ve owned some of the brown ones, and those are some of the most worn casino chips we’ve seen on PCF. That chip has certainly fulfilled his duty and then some.

And FWIW, I’d still play with the chip. People at the table will either want to get rid of it, or they’ll want it. But either way it will be a fun thing to shout about.

These are relabeled Lucky Derby orange $1s with round edges.

When I first saw the chip I was surpised by the amount of damage.

I had CPC chips slammed a couple of times and fall from the table on wooden floor too. NO issues at all.
My Paulsons have been luckier (no mishaps ever)

Haha, the olllldddd spirit molds. Felt great, sounded great, didn't last. Thank god they were cheap enough where you could afford to lose a couple each poker night.
I built a spirit mold set earlier this year and just plan on losing 1-3 blues per game ha. They seem to be the only ones of mine that break. Pinks maybe, but the whites and yellows are indestructible so far.
