Who has the rights to your photos submitted to Chipguide? Please READ (3 Viewers)

I'll put my history here in a short form.
When I first started making the history videos I probably didn't even get to the third video before I got an email explaining that I needed to attribute CG as the owner/where the pictures came from. I fully understand that. Then I got multiple emails telling me that I needed to state where the picture came from and the whole bit. I get that, but then I got another set of emails telling me to take down the videos to fix them and add that the pictures came from CG. I told Kaplan that I cannot take the videos down (well I could), but then I would have had to re-edit them, re-render them and re-upload them. That's a lot of work and I don't think he understood that. Then, I was told that the pictures from CG could only be used for a small piece of the video.
I'm sitting there thinking "Where else are you going to FIND SOME OF THIS STUFF?" Sure Google might have something, but not as much as CG. Not sure how many of you look at my videos (I'm finding that there are a lot more people that do than I realized) but I always include the links where I get pictures and information from in the descriptions. That's what I've learned in school to basically have a Works Cited page in my descriptions. I don't believe I need to go into 10000% detail to exactly say what I got from this link or this link. If anyone wants to go through them they are more than welcome to. I was told that those links aren't sufficient enough and should have that extra detail for them. "The problem with having the links in the description is that you can view the video without seeing the description. Also, you just have a link without an explanation. There should be an explanation that images in the video are from the CG along with the link. The link by itself is not good enough. The mention of where you got the images has to be in the video itself." This I always make sure to do now and I even have showed the CG in many of my videos, I give it a shoutout and all that I can to make sure people know about it.
Anywhooooo that's my little rant. I would love to see things get better and not be so micromanaged. Things such as an online database that literally anyone in the world has access to should be a place where people can learn and see things that you don't see everyday. If someone wants to use that information or image, sure say where you got it from, but you don't need to hunt down someone because they didn't. People use images from across the internet literally everyday and many people don't see that someone else has used their image. Now, using an image and selling it or doing some sort of business without being the original owner is totally different. Then you are getting into some thick stuff.
I try to help out and grow this hobby as much as I can and I'm sure everyone on here enjoys doing the same. I feel like there are more and more younger people getting into as many of us on here which can help move things into a new direction. The point of this hobby is to enjoy it and I talk with so many people day by day that love to collect what they like. There aren't any set rules, saying you need to buy this or this. You buy what you want and go on with life.
There are too many amazing people in this hobby and it seems like so much negativity comes out of nowhere which I don't think needs to happen...

After reading all of this, some thoughts:
- Please feel free to use any of my images for whatever you wish, as long as you aren't scamming someone. My pictures look like they were taken with a toaster, so have at it
- Krish should do a hostile takeover and buy out the holdings of CG/MOGH (should take a few BB to get it done) and we can contribute towards hiring a consultant to integrate into PCF (with its proper forum software)
- We hold a few training sessions with the old farts to teach them NOT to put their responses in the subject line. We conduct this training via Zoom to watch them squirm
- We scrap the paper copy of the chip pricing guide and have @RainmanTrail finally realize his vision of a dynamic pricing model
- We scrap the annual CCGTCCABCDEFG convention and fold that into an international chip meetup in Vegas. It will last a week and we can have one ballroom dedicated to chip sales/trades. Folks can go there to hang out between drinking and circus events
There is TONS of room for efficiency here and plenty of people that could make it happen.

Don't assume you have a copyright in a photo of a chip, even if you are the photographer. Not every photograph is an original work within the meaning of the statute.
Don't assume you can just make a simple modification and gain your own copyright in a derivative work. That issue was just accepted for review by the U.S. Supreme Court yesterday.
It is also to understand educational and other fair uses, even when valid copyrights exist. Not every use of a copyrighted work is punishable.
Just as briefs filed in courts are not a quarter-page long, it's hard to resolve complex legal issues in short chatroom posts.

I think what he means is that not all photos of a Orleans $5 chip can be an original work since there are so many of the identical chip. But surely a one of a kind chip or similar can be? I am not an attorney I just want to insure that I am not losing the rights to my photo for future use. Nothing more.

I think it's because of something that's been just adding and adding on top of him. In person all these people are great. They are nice, friendly, you know they want to talk, want to have fun and enjoy what this community is as a whole. BUT MAN, these older guys are true keyboard warriors.
Just in the past two days or even last week what type of stuff just gets said and thrown around the CB is crazy and catches me off guard. Obviously I don't know the whole backstory of all the stuff that happens and stuff like that, but there are things that need to change for anything like this to continue. I'm not sure what kind of a life these guys live or what they do outside of posting stuff online.
I hope it doesn't ruin the whole community or the summer show which brings so many people together and so many people enjoy. I truly think things need to change and there could be something in the hierarchy that some of these people need to realize that it's the community as a whole. Sure there are people that do tons of work for it, but they need to take a step back and take a look at the bigger picture.
There really isn't anything wrong with the CG and they did just update it last year or so. It made a great different and I enjoyed it. I think it's something they have basically built from the ground up and aren't using anything like Squarespace or Shopify etc. Surely there is someone that could help with the database aspect of it, but just make it more modern if they wanted to update it again.
To me it isn't a valid reason either and I'd expect some type of voting for everyone to "want" an updated website if they feel the need. The other websites that are a part of the club, they might need some updating or something to make them more fun!
