I have seen thus term used here but they just look like chips to me. What’s the difference between a jeton and a chip?

Think a plastic chip with a raised and rounded edge that makes stacking them impossible.

According to Google, jeton can mean different things, but for chippers, jetons are like the image below:

Thanks all. I always thought Europe used those rectangles plaques like in Casino Royale. Very cool by the way I loved the sound when they were being stacked. I bought some plastic ones just for fun.

Do people stack jetons like we do chips?
Yes. I don't have any issues stacking, but they don't stack like clays because they are smooth and light. Having larger jetons helps. There are also newer (BG) J3 jetons that are shaped more like chips, like the middle one below.

In casinos, jetons are usually put in rack (baccarat, poker, blackjack...), or placed in rows (french roulette)

In the modern use sense, a jeton is basically a plaque that's shaped more like a round chip, though they do come in all sorts of shapes and sizes. I don't think they were meant for traditional stacking except in very small heights.
