Tourney Tournament exp needed. 10k or 15k? (3 Viewers)

I just use the 1/3 structure in tournaments now because it seems to make people happier.

Wait... Throughout the tourney, or just at “problem” levels like 25/75? (I assume the latter because there would be so many irregular or inexact situations if all levels are 1:3, e.g. when the BB is 500.)

your stack is not going to be diminished by much
At worst, if things fell in the worst possible way, you might be down to 197BB. Not a huge penalty.
) The rule incentivizes anyone tempted to become habitually tardy to not be that guy.

You admit that the "penalty" is practically negligible, therefore there is no incentive to avoid being tardy.

In a friendly game, it is far easier to simply ask your friends to be on time. You would be surprised how accommodating friends can be, without threatening them with a papercut.

Yes, just for 1 early level.

FWIW, I played on Monday in an underground tourney (4 tables of 8 to start) where the blinds started at 100/100 then went to 100/200 at the next level (25 minute levels). This was also with a big blind ante from the very start. It played fine. But maybe my experience was colored positively by making it to a 3-way ICM chop at the end!

I presume level 3 was 200/400, thus giving BG's dreaded 100% jump.

I presume that, because I also have a blind structure that starts at 25/25, then 25/50, only to go 50/100 in level 3. It has no negligible impact on play as The Starting Stack to Big Blind Ratio is still well in the "play as many hands as you want" range.

Yeah, 200/400 next. I don’t think the hosts had any formula or reasoning for it; they just don’t have chips denominated 50. (It’s a 25K starting stack.)

FWIW, generally that game plays loose but small early. People tend to tighten up once it gets 5-6 levels in and there are a lot more steal opportunities. But the dynamic I think has as much to do with the player pool then the structure, or more.

I always use a 100/300 level in my T100 based tournaments. Most casinos seem to use 200/300, but I prefer to keep increases 50% or lower.
In larger casino tournaments where they are incentivized to have people bust quickly so they can clear up tables and free up dealers, it makes sense to do 200/300. It should promote the SB to play more hands. In home tournaments, it doesn't really matter which you use.

Mmmm... In my experience, it’s rare to find a casino tournament that doesn’t allow rebuys/re-entries during the early levels. (I wish that were not the case.)

Yes, but it also means potentially more reentries as some people in theory are busting faster. Which is also good for the casino.
