Hey guys, couldnt find a thread about this topic, or maybe I was searching with the wrong tags….

I am in contact with a vendor on Alibaba (Kaile).
I did my own Label design et cetera. First I was sure That I want to get no mold chips. Now I‘ve seen that they offer top hat mold for just 1c more…

Did anyone have hands on a China Chip with top hat mold? Is there a big difference between no mold and mold? They say its the same material, just different surface (smooth/textured)

A lot of people suggest cards mold over no mold and now I am not sure what to do since I really dig the top hat style.

I hope they can send me samples of both no mold and top hat.

Right now I have a set of DDLM tourneys and want this other set to change the theme every now and then. And since the new set is with no nomination its a Great cash set too.

Thanks in advance :)

I don’t think there’s much of a difference between the no-mold and the hat and cane knockoff.
You mention a lot of people prefer cards mold to no-mold, but I’m not seeing that, and I prefer the no-mold by a large margin.
However, if you can swing the small bump in cost, the ceramic hybrids (web, Greek, etc.) are miles ahead of any of the other China ceramic chips. If you join in on one of Justin’s monthly group buys, you’ll even save more than doing it yourself. And you can get samples from him (Broken Arrow cardroom in vendor section) which is always HIGHLY recommended.

There is a hybrid hat and cane mold and a hybrid no mold as well.
IMO I would always go with a hybrid type as mentioned above, Greek, web, etc.

I‘ve read about the hybrids. But what are they exactly? I thought theyre just a different kind of mold?

This should help, but to summarize, hybrids are the same type of tina chip with a recessed inlay for a label/sticker. This gives it a more traditional feel you find on casino chips. Hope that helps.

The labels that are printed for the hybrids are very sharp and detailed.

You can’t get nearly that detail on a standard ceramic chip.

Hybrids have a mold and textured ring I think would be the best way to explain it?

I believe justin can have it shipped directly to you, it just may cost a bit more on the shipping itself. Might still save overall going the group buy route, as the shipping may be what you would have paid ordering directly, but the chips themselves will get the bulk discount.

Worth contacting him before ruling it out entirely anyway =)

I'm pretty sure @SeanGecko has some tina hat&canes, along with just about everything else she's had made. :ROFLMAO:
