Usually play poker on Thursday nights but saw the F1 movie instead.

******TINY SPOILER ALERT******

F stands for Formula but in this case it could stand for Fantasy or Fairy Tale but because I'm an F1 junkie I still liked it. Predictable? Yes? Did is see almost everything coming before it happened? Yes. Would a non F1 fan like it? I'm not sure. Was there a poker scene? Yes!! Worst "chips" ever? Maybe lol/you'll get it when you see it.

Definitely a movie to see on the big screen. I'm not a huge Dbox fan (seats that move/vibrate) but figured it was a good movie to have this feature. Made me want to upgrade my Butt Kicker in my racing simulator though...

i was staring at brad pitt billboards sitting in 101 traffic last night and wondering if that movie would be any good. i did see "rush" in theaters when it first came out and enjoyed it. might watch this one just for laughs. thanks for the review!

Question for ya’ll.

My middle son (18, just graduated) is a huge F1 fan. I need to start watching, but he wants to go to a race next year.

Traveling internationally is not out of the question, but we’re not going to go too far (Japan is his dream trip, but that’s a no for me)

Taking into consideration ticket costs and lodging, do you have recommendations on which races & experiences might be best for 2 first timers? Preferred viewing areas and such? I hear Vegas is good, Miami is $$$$ (and he doesn’t want to go there). He mentioned Texas, but they might not race there next season(?)

I have to report any international travel, so staying away from the Middle East area is also preferred :-). Feel free to PM me with specifics and such if it will clutter up this thread.

The US races are expensive. I think grandstand seats are $1000+ for 3 days at Austin which is probably cheaper than Miami and Vegas. When I went in 2018 it was $250 and I was at turn 9 which also gives you a view of the stage for the concerts (need to check if the stage is still there). @Rieguy can probably give better advice on Austin.

You can fly to Europe and get tickets for $400+ for 3 days for approx the same total cost as you’ll still need to pay for flights, hotel and local transport wherever you go. Personally I would prefer to go to Europe as you get a vacation and better food!

Austin’s your best bet. I’ve been to Vegas each of the last 2 years and just booked my trip this year. For Vegas you have to ask yourself if you’re really there for Vegas OR F1. If you try to do both it will cost a lot more than Miami.

My sister has been going to the races and she’s gone international to save money. I believe Hungaria and Amsterdam?

Hmmmm…
At Costco:

That ticket doesn’t include a seat.

I think @Rieguy has been to COTA F1. You’ll get to see a lot more of the track and race from the stands there than in Vegas.

Vegas F1 even if you have good seats (4 digits) you’ll at most be able to see 1-2 seconds of the track as these cars blitz by. Everyone is on their phones watching the livestream to see actual standings/updates. @BNads86 did that last year.

At COTA you’ll probably be able to walk the paddock. In Vegas it’s much more restrictive what you can see and where you can go.

Yup, been to COTA ~10 times and in 3+ different total sections, although since 2019 we've done T15 top row. This section you have actual chair-back seats and a view of the most of the straightaway (T11-T12) and everything in between until the end of T16 (as well as a few other distant turns). This is where all the action/passing happens after the start. Have sat on the straightaway itself a few times and it's a wonderful view, although it's bleachers (which can get uncomfortably crowded) like most of the rest of the track seats. Been on the other side of the track too around T7-T10 and it was solid (also bleachers), although not the same. Honestly, you get what you pay for.

The Costco deal you linked is fantastic, just know you will be fighting for good spots on the lawn (the higher the better as always w/ racing). That said, there are a lot of good lawn areas from what I've seen, although you'll probably want to spend some of Friday/Saturday picking out where you want to be for the race itself and strategizing how to get there at opening. You will want to have fold up chairs or a blanket/towel, and want to be prepared for most logistics (transportation can be an absolute nightmare - I cannot stress this enough). More often than not, it's brutally hot, so even sunscreen, umbrella, and other stuff to be prepared will be important, although a couple years were rainy.

Feel free to PM but figured this would help for those lucking too.

Older map but most of the lawn is the same, albeit bigger than it looks below.

Straightaway and then T15 - Pano shots so you can zoom in and see different stuff, including where people post up on lawns.

Guess the sexual harassment stuff can be swept under the rug as long as RB was winning……but when you’re 4th, not so much.

I guess Max is going to Mercedes then...
That would be interesting…

Who would they keep, Kimi or Russell? I kinda lean towards they’d keep Kimi. Young, huge upside potential, Max V to push him…

The word has been they'd keep Kimi. Planning for the future I suppose.
