A buddy (Johnny Mac, for the locals and Mr. McD for the PCFere who play in Wes' online game) mentioned he's never been to a casino to play poker, but would love to go (not sure why he doesn't just go by himself). Well, today that ends. He recently had a birthday, and today was the first day my schedule works out to go with him.

He's asked a million questions in text and seems super excited. If we get in (his driver's license expired on his birthday -- the new one hasn't been delivered and he can't find the papers with the expired one stapled to it ; typical Johnny Mac), we plan to play $1/$3 NLHE at MGM Grand Detroit from 10ish until 3ish. I'm picking him up at 9ish.

Nabbing @bergs a $25 chip while I'm there.

Yes, he's played in home games for years, tournaments and cash.

He told me he's taking $600, which I fear may be a bit short, but I'm taking extra to cover him if he busts early. He plays super aggressive (and can be a calling station), so I expect he'll walk out felted or up $2500.

I imagine y'all have discussed what is he goal of playing in a casino for tht first time?
Experience / vibe /atmosphere / or poker / profit.

Maybe tip the floor to put him at a good table if that's a thing ...

Yes.

I think experience/vibe atmosphere is first for him and poker/profit is 2nd.

It'll be his first time playing in a raked game, so I'm going to advise him not to play every hand like he typically does.

I'm happy to get to spend a day with my friend, playing cards.

Current games running (at 630 a.m.)

Obviously game selection will be better at 10:00 a.m.

There's also a high hand promotion daily. Here's what'll be running today:

Gotta get him signed up for a player's card so he can earn that $1.50/hour in compas, lol.

I played cash with him years ago at Northville Downs so he has played raked games before. Actually I think you were there as well. Not sure I’d count that as a casino though.
Anyway have fun and good luck! And yes the loss of paperwork is totally John!

@WedgeRock I would go with you guys today. I picked up a 12 hour OT shift. Easy money since they are celebrating the holiday. I have played at a casino once in the last decade. The last one was with @Jeff . We played PLO. I think I played two hands in three hours. Both were all in before the turn. Up a few hundred.

I'll take a fun home game any day of the week!

Friend just raised $10 from SB with three limpers. BB folded and everyone called. Ah4h4x board. Friend leads for $15 out of position. I call, 2 other fold. Turn 3c. He checks, I shove, he tanks calls and shows KhQh for the nfd. My Ac3h holds for the double up.

We talked on the way down about not getting sticky, but I think he called because it was me.

This is the OMC-ish table I have ever seen. Same 8 guys since the table formed. Maybe two pots over $100, other than that, biggest pot has been like $50. Limps everywhere.

The only one who's up is the rake.

Just get a free coffee and settle in. Hopefully you wore the king of cushion, you’ll fit right in!

Those are some sexy white leather NBs.

Only thing keeping the table alive is the two high hand jackpots paid out at the table.

Starting to get some fresh blood. Unfortunately, they w all been in Seat 8. Once OMC left, a new guy filled in for one hand, then went to $2/$5. Another guy filled in for half an or it, then went to $2/$5. Another new guy just say down; we'll see how long he lasts.
