Planning a 2-table super turbo rebuy, expecting 16-20 people and want it to end around the 3 hour mark.

Is this going to be too slow? For simplicity I am working off 17 people each with 1 rebuy and 1 addon. 10k per stack gets us 510k chips in play. Game should end when 30 bbs are left in play so 17k bb level. That puts it at 3:45. What should I adjust here? Do you call a 3 hour tourney a turbo or super turbo?

100/200, 200/400, 300/600, 400/800, end rebuys, do the add on, color up 100s. 500/1000, 1000/1500, 1000/2000, 1500/3000, color up 500s. Drop levels to 10 minutes. 2000/4000, 3000/6000, 4000/8000, 5000/10000, 6000/12000, 8000/16000, 10000/20000.

So if I lower start stack to 7500, keeping rebuys and addon, then alter the levels, 17 players each with rebuy and addon gets us 30bb in play at 6000/12000 so thats right at the 3 hour mark. I can keep it like this or really make it a super turbo by lowering the start stack down to 5k.

The correct estimate for the ending level is 20 BB, not 30 BB, so you will end when big blind is approx 20k.

Going too low on the starting stack will cause this to become a shove fest within the first hour.

Thats the point of a super turbo. Lots of all ins and action.
Yes, but at 7500 and 5000, you’re talking about starting stacks of 37.5 and 25 big blinds respectively. IMO, that’s WAY too low.

I’ve played a $50/50/50 - 3 bullet tournament at a couple of local card rooms and I’m trying to replicate it for my home game. In my opinion, it’s a great format for a home game, and very similar to what’s being done here.
They do 15,000 starting stacks. Although they start at 100/100 for 150bb, the difference between that and 100/200 is negligible in the way the game actually plays, so I’m comfortable calling it 75 big blinds and saying that’s the sweet spot.

And the rules they use are that you have two extra $50 bullets available. You can use them for 15k rebuys any time you want. But if you still have a bullet available at the break, you can use it for a 20k addon.
(And FWIW, the level after the break is 600/1200, so that 20k addon is worth 16.6bb.) most people go at least for the addon. These tournaments draw 50-130+ people and I’ve crunched the numbers a few times, and the average person is buying in for around $120 - so about two and a half bullets.

TL, DR - I think even at 10k your starting stack is low.

I want the tourney over within 2-3 hours max, so its gotta be a very short stack. I've done stt's with a 10bb start stack before, its a lot of fun.

Ran it with 5000 start stack, rebuy available at 5000 or below chips and 7500 add-on.
20 entrys
29 rebuys
17 add-ons

Tourney ended at the 8000/16000 level.

Don't forget that with the 100% increase from level 1 to 2 that in 15 minutes you chopped your total in half... with 5k in chips we now only have 12.5 BBs in 15 minutes.

When we run T100 based we go
100/200, 100/300, 200/400.

Hope everyone had fun @SendThatStack , your profile name definitely stands up to this tourney structure. Far too aggressive for me... but also was not discussed on the buy in proce or maybe I missed it.

At meet ups we have been running a $20 buy in turbo/freeze out winner takes all with 5 minute blinds that double every level. It is very fast paced... but again it's $20 and a bit more skill than just flipping for $20. But also this is not the main event, we run these with whom ever is left standing and interested at 2:00 AM
Freeze out and turbo don’t really go together imo.
this is the only way we run turbos. At some of our games most of the players are cash players but they like to draw in the tourney players to get the count up... so we run a 30 to 60 minute turbo to start the night and jump straight into cash. Also our 2am turbos are meant to end quickly. Now both of these games are single table settings and the OP is in reference to a MTT... also this was meant to be the main event of their evening so I can see both sides. But 12.5 BBs at level Two average sounds like a shove fest. Not my style. Also others here run "all in or fold" type tournies. Again zero intrest but I guess some people enjoy reckless poker... maybe I'm just getting old! Lol

It was advertised as a super-turbo rebuy so most had an idea of what to expect. The players loved it. We only lost 1-2 players before the end of the rebuy period.
