Location
Simi Valley, CA
Background:
I grew up playing in Indian casinos in the southern California area when I was 18. As I was located in Santa Barbara for many years (The Beach!), Chumash casino was our regular stomping ground. We also frequented Morongo casino, and over the years have patronized San Manuel and Pechanga.

To that end, I wanted to create a set that paid tribute to the local tribes, as their lands are steeped in the culture in various areas of SoCal, and of course their gaming venues turned me into a gambling monster in a very formative time in life.

This idea was first inspired by the Boardwalk GB when I got the 39mm and the PCF 43mm mold in my hands. As the casinos I got started in utilized RT Plastics for a while, I was planning on doing a mock RT plastic.

Over time it has morphed into a mock BJ V7, with some liberties taken in graphics. I mixed in edge symbols that aren't stock molds for BJ, as well as turning the face symbols into the mountain symbol on all chips to represent the valley.

Location:
At the end of 2018 we bought our first house in a town called Simi Valley. This name is derived from a bastardization of the Chumash name Shiyimi Valley, aptly named for the type of clouds that (used to) hang over the valley.

There is a painted cave located in Simi Valley, with petroglyphs left over from the Chumash that used to inhabit the area. The location of it is no longer published and the land inaccessible in order to preserve it, however the photographs taken from inside show many symbols of the sun, mother Earth, condors, and many others.

Design:
Simi Valley also belongs to larger stretch of valley referred to by the Chumash tribe as Sky Valley, which stretches from Ventura County (where I grew up) all the way to the edge of the Los Angeles area.

The feel of the logo/inlay is meant to be reminiscent of older day Native American casino branding. The California condor is a bird revered by many tribes, and the Chumash in particular even have a Condor Dance, which is represented by a finger painted/cave painted stylization.

Major shoutout to @allforcharity and @72o for helping out and giving input throughout the design process. This is what makes the community great! My design thread had many contributors, and I appreciate all who entered.

Working with @SUN-FLY Poker Chips was an absolute DREAM throughout the process. I worked with Susie from start to finish, and I could not come away a happier customer.

The total time from initial contact to delivery was around/just under 3 months. This included me sending my initial inquires on pricing, initial invoicing, finalizing artwork, secondary invoicing (because I'm a pain in the ass who keeps adding on quantity), prototyping, and final print.

Timeline went something like this
Week 0: Initial contact
Week 0: Pricing list received and conversation started
Week 2: Initial artwork files submitted
Week 3: Invoicing and wire transfer
Week 6: First prototypes emailed
Week 6: Second and third prototypes emailed
Week 7: Artwork tweaked by SF and final prototypes submitted:
Week 8: I goofed around and asked to add more quantity
Week 9: Secondary invoice finalized and wire transfer confirmed
Week 10: Chips printed in full!
Week 11: Chips received!!

Susie was very patient with me through the entire process. Her team pumped out prototypes to satisfy my every need.

The production quality is OUTSTANDING. The ALIGNED edgespots are just amazingly done. I don't know how they nailed it with such accuracy at such frequency, but I'm blown away. As you can see from the close up pictures above, they are spot on on 99%+ of the chips.

I know I'm going against the grain by going to 39mm and not 43mm here, but I'm a freak for "normal" chips and the quality of 39mm should not be understated. I think everyone looking for customs NEEDS to put Sun-Fly in the game. The 39mm hybrids are going to be here for a while, and the customer service, blank quality, and print quality should put Sun-Fly in the running for one of the more common options in the custom chip market.

I am also open to sending out samples, shuffle stacks, and more starting soon. I will likely post giveaways for samples, sale threads for shuffle stacks, or possibly a freebie traveling shuffle set to the community.

They came out fantastic. Really Nice looking chips, you can be very happy.

Can only echo the praise for SUN-FLY. They are awesome to work with.

Thank you! Yes just such a pleasant experience overall.

Super design and execution! What ended up being your price per chip?
Thanks man! 1,500 chips received - around .85 a chip after shipping. 39mm were a bit cheaper than the 43, and the 43 only made up a small portion of my order.

I believe current pricing is a touch higher, but I hate to use historical pricing since things change often.

Thank you Sir for your feedback with so many details!

I'm going to send the link of this post to Susie, I'm sure she'll be glad after reading this post :), all the efforts that you guys put in turn into something valuable to you, this means a lot to us.

You should all be proud! And Susie was even better than I could post on the forum. She dealt with all of my questions and issues with no problem and was very patient.

I'm happy to post on here because you delivered a near flawless product. I love it!

Realized I never put any in-play shots in from the last game we played with them. They certainly brought me luck!

Now that we're finally moved into our new place, these will start to see a lot more action. I know most people think the 43mm are superior, but if you're trying to go after a BJ chips, these hybrid style chips are hard to beat for the quality and price. I personally like the 39mm, as I like the idea of Bud Jones V7's but hate the actual chips themselves. Having 39mm with oversized upper denoms is a great option for any custom set.

Also have a new addition as of today. To be honest I'm not super impressed with the thread colors, but hell...just trying to find more things to customize!

Beautiful set! Are these ceramic like the cards mold or are they plastic like matsui?

These are ceramic, but are known as a hybrid, as they have a recess in the middle for a label. They feel closer to plastics than ceramics, but stack better. They are much higher quality than the cards mold ceramics. See here for a traveling set if you're interested in handling them. The thread is closed, but they are with member B2rad currently.

Niiiice…diggin the new hats!
It was just a single to see if I liked them or not. I'm not impressed with the thread color, but that's not surprising. I won't be getting them for us from this site. I'll likely look to a local embroider for the next attempt.

Been kicking up the tournament hosting again lately. Finally got the TD software set up and running the last 2 times, and just landed is 1000 pc set of cards molds

Great looking set. I am curious about your seating chips.... were there extra fee's for the seating chips having different designs on each chip? I have been told I the past that I need to make a minimum order of 10 of each chip from other companies....I'd like to do something along the same lines as you did for approx 4 tables with the logo on one side and a colour/position number on the reverse but have held off thinking it would be potentially outrageously expensive. Yours look great and very functional.

Thanks

Thanks! I had them made by BRPro along with the buttons in a single order. There was nothing special about the different designs on each chip, I just didn't reach any price break for quantities.

I would just reach out to them and place your order, it couldn't be easier. I work with @BR Pro Poker every chance I get, and I'll continue to do so.

Great thanks for the info, I was hoping it would be that easy. The 43mm chips are not to expensive, I was just worried I'd need 10x each denom and I just dont need or want that many. I'll get cracking on the design front and maybe have some sloth club blind, hi/lo and kill buttons done.

Great looking room. Love the Kings jerseys!
Thanks! Got some cleaning up to do for the mantle but money is going elsewhere in the house for now (moved in end of Jan). But the room is comfortable as is! Will post more pics later when I clean up all the trash from some shipments this weekend.

I just recieved some prestige 43mm hybrids, I love the feel. Are the 39mm hybrids as good as the 43mm in relation to how "nonslippery' the 43mm are? I love how the 43s don't slide at all and have some grip to them
