I have some time off coming up just before Christmas and I'm considering channeling my inner @k9dr and making a beer run up the Hudson River Valley to visit some local breweries. My primary targets are of course Tree House in Saratoga Springs as well as Fidens in Albany, but after doing a little interwebz'n I noticed there are a bunch of other places on the way:

Draft list of potentials:
  • Kingston Standard, Kingston
  • Deep Fried Beers, Athens
  • Fidens, Albany
  • Treehouse, Saratoga Springs
  • West Kill Brewing, West Kill
  • Equilibrium Brewing, Middletown
  • Suarez Family Brewery, Hudson
  • Wayward Lane Brewing, Schoharie
  • Hudson Valley Brewery, Beacon
  • Obercreek Brewing, Wappingers Falls
  • Woodstock Brewing, Phoenicia
  • Subversive Malting & Brewing, Catskill
I'm still very much in planning mode and looking for any feedback from others in the NY area or fellow beer lovers! I typically target IPAs but also enjoy reds, cream ales and lagers as well. Looking for feedback on the food at the breweries as well, as I plan to stop for lunch/dinner at least twice, maybe more if I end up making this an overnight trip.

Right now I'm thinking this will be a day trip with stops at Subversive, Deep Fried, Fidens, Tree House, and then maybe hitting Equilibrium on the way home to Jersey, but I'm very flexible on the approach, and I think the region is also due for a good amount of snow in the coming weeks, so that may factor into the travel arrangements. Also considering a side trip to Cooperstown, though that will likely wait for a future trip in the spring/summer.

Any feedback / recommendations are welcome, thanks!!

Making this a 2 day trip - plans are all set, assuming the weather cooperates:
  • Deep Fried Beers, Athens
  • Wayward Lane Brewing, Schoharie
  • Northway Brewing Hop House, Cooperstown
  • Treehouse, Saratoga Springs
  • Fidens, Albany
  • Equilibrium Brewing, Middletown

For that future run to Cooperstown, Ommegang is a nice brewery to tour.
I tried to fit them in this trip, but the timing unfortunately didn't work out, they had limited hours the 2 days I'll be out there.

What dates are you planning ? I am heading up that way again in early January.

First stop - Night School in Athens, home of Deep Fried Beers.

Grabbed a taste of Racecar Bed, Three Times Three, and Turbo Toaster. All were very good, but the Racecar Bed was the star of the lineup, and thankfully they had to-go cans of that for the road

Wifey worked here charm on the bartender and scored a taste of the Hudson Valley Silhouette (Apple cider donut sour IPA), which was pretty tasty as well.

Next up - Wayward Lane Brewing in Schoharie. This place was awesome, way out in the country up a mountain, farmhouse style setup. They had a delicious little dumpling trunk on-site too, grabbed a snack and a tasty hazy IPA with peacharine hops and a bunch of to-go cans. I definitely need to come back one day in warmer weather and hang out!

Wait...
If you & Mrs Irish are upstate New York, that means the real party is going on back in Jersey.

Last brewery stop of the day - Northway Brewing in Cooperstown.

Summer baseball town, so naturally we were the only ones there at 6pm on a Sunday evening lol. Had another very good hazy IPA:

Have a good friend who lives on Main St. in Cooperstown and is a strong beer enthusiast, I could have sent him to meet you.

Looking forward to tomorrow’s reports.

Yep we drove right by his house  :ROFLMAO:

Save some for me - I'll be there in 2 weeks
After we had a couple of beers and lunch I hit the pickup queue for my to-go cans. The guy in front of me ordered like 8 cases, this big college dude rolls out solo with the hand truck with his order and packs his truck single handed. For my ~3 case order, no joke this like 80 year old grandma exits the building with a book style cart a la Brooks in Shawshank, I had to run over to help her over the curb lol. I'm like WTF I guess I gotta drop a grand before getting to a status level  :ROFLMAO:

No different than me sharing home game pics with different beers on the felt then driving home from Jersey at 3am  :ROFLMAO:

And.... the journey is complete, made it home with 30 different brews and a pack of some strawberry basil concoction that got the wifey all tipsy and giggly at Tree House today

All safe and tucked away:

All but 2 of these is new to me (shamefully, I've never tried either Tree House Green or Haze before), and several from Fidens and Deep Fried Beers are brandy new in the past couple of days. Looking to sustain a healthy BAC the next two weeks  :ROFLMAO:

Cheers!

stopping there tomorrow... let me know if you have any 'must have' recommendations!
Looking at today's draft list and assuming you like NEIPAs, I'd go with Very DDDoublegangerrr, that's one of my absolute favorites. Tropical fruit punch, rich citrus, nectarines, and cherries - and next level creamy.

Or Emperor Julius was be a good alternative. But hell, pretty much anything there is crazy good.

(Note their draft list and to-go can offerings are usually a little different)
