Companies ship expensive stuff all the time, plenty of it through USPS I'm sure. They just don't do it in flat rate boxes. Registered mail can be insured for up to $50k and the packages are well secured. UPS and Fedex likely have similar offerings for high value items.I am sorry to hear about this situation and sucks bad for all parties. I really think that we are approaching a point where large purchases over a few thousand really should not be shipped but delivered in person. If I am buying $10k in chips then why not buy a round trip ticket on southwest for a couple hundred bucks to deliver in person, or pick them up? I only lost one package with FedEx and it was only $120 in chips so the $100 insurance mostly covered the cost. But with high value sets, maybe in person is the way to go.
I said it before and I'll say it again, not sure why so many people get wrapped around the axle thinking that only these two boxes were selected for paper infusion. An entire mail truck could have been picked over in the ten days that these boxes were untracked. Again, just saying, fraud along the route is quite possible and more common than we likely realize. The USPS investigation may reveal that this happened to numerous customers during the same time window.I have no clue how this happened, but for people to think that it couldn't have happened along the USPS route, is just obtuse.
Both packages were untracked (effectively whereabouts unknown) for 10 days. To assume tampering couldn't have happened to two boxes traveling the same route is nonsense. For all we know an entire carton of boxes or an entire truck of boxes could have gone off the grid, breached, then returned to the shipping system in this time. We have no idea how may people are filing similar complaints at this time.
This is a world of organized retail theft, super-clone high-end watches, and theft of every kind. This could have easily been organized USPS theft. Adding similar weight to the boxes adds cover and obfuscation, plus it slows down the claims process and permits the sender and receiver to point fingers at each other.
Not saying that this happened in this case, but for sure, it is completely possible. And there are many cases to peruse via Google searching.
I do wonder what year that was and how far the baby was going.
So what ever came about his complaint he filed?...

I've got a standing bet that I'll lose an arm before the age of 50 at 5,000 to 1, wealthy friend of my Uncle's. $20, not a bad lil insurance policy.
How tf does that conversation start!?!?I've got a standing bet that I'll lose an arm before the age of 50 at 5,000 to 1, wealthy friend of my Uncle's. $20, not a bad lil insurance policy.
Really hope I don't have to reach out to him, and if I was it would be with one hand!

My uncle used to work for WWE (formerly WWF) and this guy was also affiliated. We brought up the crazy matches with barbed wire and stuff, old Mick Foley. I said those guys were insane and it would take an awful lot for me to give up a limb, and we ended up haggling on what it would cost. Ended up as an odds conversation, and we shook on it. He spent the $20 on buffalo wings, and maybe I'll spend his $100,000 on a prosethetic.
I did spend some time clarifying that I wasn't selling a limb and planned to keep both.
Yes. Box damaged with 1/3 of the chips missing. USPS insurance covered the missing items, took about 3 months.Maybe I'm one of the few left that doesn't think @SpaceMonkey420 is a thief? Regardless, here's a few things to think about:
USPS insurance: Has ANYONE actually collected on USPS insurance for a package that was delivered?
Please….You know...
I read almost the entire thread and I was ready to swear that Spacemonkey pulled this story off (in whatever state he was in.. And I don't mean any kind of substances...), but considering that DB got his money, it says a lot...
We too often (and unconditionally) take the buyer’s side.
It’s all thanks to online trade.
But the whole story is just another lesson teaching us that we should use buyer protection, insure shipments, and use a reliable delivery service.
Crazy things happen quite often…
When I was waiting for my CPC order, which had been sent in two boxes—obviously at the same time—they arrived a month apart. I received one box at home, paying the customs duties in cash to the postman, and the other I had to collect after being interrogated by customs officers. They handed me a knife, stepped two steps back, and demanded that I open the box myself… Then they laughed and just gave it to me—after I paid the customs duties, of course.
And then there was the time when I got a letter from the police saying that my package with chips, which I had sent to an Australian forum member, was being held and inspected for drugs… Six months later, the recipient wrote to me saying he had received it—minus a few chips from the stack.
Where they went, nobody knows.
But I suspect the police broke them apart, hoping to find something…
The “Cocaine Giraffe” is nervously smoking in the corner…
However, the buyer said everything was fine, since he hadn’t been in Australia for several months and didn’t want to “mess” with the whole story…
And once I bought chips here from a guy in Belgium, but he just disappeared… I was upset, and after two weeks I clicked on “request refund.” I didn’t even realize that by accident, during payment, I had used PP Business. I ended up getting my money back instantly—while the chips were already on their way… I had to send the payment again. Turns out the seller was just away on a trip.
We often judge others by ourselves…
I try to ship chips the next day because I expect the same attitude towards me… But people on this planet are much more varied…
I was reading this all intrigued wondering what the story was and who the aussie member was. Then I realised.... was it me?! Lolwhich I had sent to an Australian forum member

I read this post and really believed that everything ended well...Update!
@SpaceMonkey420 has reimbursed me w a 100% refund and opened a usps investigation.
As I originally said, I would split the loss 50/50 and that’s where we landed.
Because what we do here is conversational.I’m aware of this problem. And I can’t understand why I do it.
My wife scolds me for it too. She’s a journalist, and these ellipses of mine just make her shake.
The funny thing is, I never do this in official correspondence.
