Sad news for those who haven't heard (2 Viewers)

A very sad day for the chipping community, and for humanity in general. A pillar of personal and business integrity, pride in workmanship, and informational excellence spanning decades.

RIP, Jim B -- you will be sorely missed, fondly remembered, and irreplaceable in our hearts and activities.

RIP Jim. I’ll never forget the factory tour he took JM and I on when we offered to drive up to Maine and grab my first Truman’s House ASMs. Far and away the coolest tour I’ve ever been on. I impulse bought one of those cases and it was amazing quality, just like he said.

Everyone in this hobby - directly or indirectly - owes a debt of gratitude to Jim.

Very sad news indeed. We never met in person, but I had several phone conversations over the years with Jim. It was always a privilege to talk to him.

I have heard from others who knew him that Jim was getting ready to retire from his job in auto sales when the former owners of what would become ASM fell on hard times after losing a lawsuit over a casino order. Jim or his family owned the building where the equipment was located, and many of his family and friends worked there. He stepped in to essentially save the business and the jobs, keeping the factory open. He made small custom orders for collectors like us, sometimes using materials left over from larger casino and card room orders, to keep his employees working between those larger casino orders.

What we now know as "Old ASM" was synonymous with quality and integrity because of Jim.

We will not see those circumstances, or a man like Jim Blanchard, again.

Rest in Peace, Jim.

I'm so sorry to hear about Jim, @David Spragg.

The chipping world will never see his like again. A giant has left us, I can't imagine what knowledge and history has passed with Jim.

Here's hoping he's making sweet ass clay sets for the angels up in Heaven now. :)

Sorry for your loss - our thoughts are with you and Jim's family.

Sorry for my amateur question, but what is his screen name on here?
Sorry for the loss. Sounds like he most likely had many educational posts here that will continue to be helpful for many members long after his passing.

Very sad for those who have suffered a personal loss in Jim Blanchard's passing. Also for those of us who admired him in the chipping world. He is not just a legend in this hobby, but as a vendor in the casino business world. He took pride in the craftsmanship of producing a "real" gaming chip. And he was so correct in that. I think @David Spragg will continue this craft just as Jim would have.
Rest In Peace.

RIP Jim - I bought a few roman mold chips from him and it was interesting to hear a few facts about the OG rounders chips.

His account was @apple102 although he didn't post a ton
