Over the next year I'll be doing a series of articles re: building sets for the CCA magazine, as well as focusing on playable casino chip sets. I'll also be chatting with some of their directors to look at offering playable sets for their members using their annual club chips.

In this thread I'd like you to post your preferred single-table $1/$2 NLHE/PLO breakdown, along with a very brief synopsis of why its ideal for you/your poker crew. Listing how many players you regularly have at your table would also be helpful. If your breakdown would differ between NLHE and PLO, please list both breakdowns and identify which is which.

If you don't commonly play $1/$2 NLHE or PLO, please refrain from posting.

Please, keep debate/discussion to a minimum in this thread. A breakdown that works for you may be trash for another person's game for various reasons. My purpose here is simply to solicit a variety of opinions, not the "best" opinion.

My group doesn't often play at these stakes, so unfortunately I don't have a breakdown to offer here.

For a one table, $1/$2 NLHE or PLO "only", meaning the set does not have to be flexible, this is my preferred breakdown Scott:

200 x $1s
600 x $5s
100 x $25s
100 x $100s

Most of my sets were built with a 1/2 game in mind. They generally have the following breakdown for a single table:

$1 (200)
$5 (600-800)
$25 (200-400) closer to the upper end if the set doesn't have 100s available
$100 (0-100)

To be able to cover two tables, my ideal 2000 chip breakdown would look like this:

$1 (400)
$5 (1200)
$25 (300)
$100 (100)

We play $1/$2 with rebuys up to the size of the largest stack. There are nights the bank gets stressed. One night I ran out of chips playing a $13,000+ bank and ended up making $500 chips out of bar coasters (we weren't playing at my house because there is no possible way to run out of chips at home . . . )

200 x $1s less than 200 chips means people may be making change too often.
600 x $5s On a slow night, I might not ever need the higher value chips. I like a game with only $1 and $5 chips where that is practical.
100 x $25s
100 x $100s
5 or 10 x $500 I learned my lesion, I include these just in case . . .

If I am traveling to a game where I only have a 500 chip case to carry, I use this breakdown if possible

150 x $1
150 x $5
100 x $25
100 x $100
5 x $500 (they will fit somewhere)

160x $1
300x $5
100x $25
40x $100

But if your $1/$2 game is uncapped, you'll definitely need more chips... ;)
