100%. In my experience, tournament players are more casual, more social, and just more likely to have fun. NLHE cash players (in casinos) are the exact opposite. But I have no idea what this has to do with card size preference.

Poker size give Hold'em players a feeling they're holding a handful, plus they make it easier to see the board with crammed tables. For PLO+OFCP I prefer bridge but don't care much. Wish 4-color become the norm, just like Color vs B&W TV.

So 100% of the people that bought paper poker sized cards fully understand that plastic bridge cards not only exist and what they are used for…but also specifically chose NOT to order them knowing and considering this? Yeah …ok

Being a recent member of a forum and making broad sweeping generalizations is the issue. It’s like going to a new city…walking around the block and declaring everyone there is mean.
What you are seeing in this threat is exactly one person turning a discussion about personal preference into attacks on people reasoning ability and intelligence. I spent a lot of hours at the casino cash tables and most are extremely social. One of my biggest leaks is getting to wrapped up in conversation and not paying attention. Not much different than my home games.

@Isorg Just take a chill pill and let it go. You should know many of the people here have history going back 20+ years across multiple forums and many have met in person over the years. This is like family here and sometimes brothers gotta put each other in a headlock.
The best advice I can give you is to get to a meetup, enjoy camaraderie, and have fun...this is a hobby/pasttime/passion.
And likely not a new thing said since page 1.

Just my experience, and worded poorly. I'm not saying NLHE cash games in casinos can't be social. But let me ask you this - have you played a lot of tournaments in casinos, or fixed limit cash mixed games? I've just found the latter two to generally be noticeably different atmospheres than the first.

I played a lot of tournaments 15-20 years ago and used to do well with them….but now I find them boring. Plus, the cash games at the casinos have gotten so incredibly soft I feel like I’m losing money not playing in them. I only play NLHE. I liked limit but haven’t played it since they started offering NL in AC back in 2005.
Unless I’m traveling, my main casino is Borgata. I don’t see many mixed limit games on the board. The craziest games are the all bomb pit tables. What I’ve found is that $1/3 is the most social and oldest by age. $2/5 is slightly younger, still social, but full of more drunk people. After 7pm there seems to be a loud argument every hour or so from one of those tables. I don’t play higher than that but you don’t notice those tables. They are usually quiet or in the back of the room. This seems to be the same (the tables dynamics) when I’m in Boston or Vegas

Not to pile on because I have never played in rooms in your area, but where I have played in Minnesota and Las Vegas I also have very much had the opposite experience. The tournament players are wound tighter than the cash players.

I found tournament tables are less social too…probably because people aren’t at the same table as long. I’ve sat for 5 hours at tables with mostly the same people in cash games before

Oh man, I really miss Alterac Valley. That was the best battleground, IMO. I grinded (ground?) a ton of rep before they revamped the Honor System in anticipation for The Burning Crusade. Then I hit end game and focused on raiding. Fun times although I don't miss having the game feel like a full time job. Raiding guilds were insane now that I look back on it.
You were a shadow priest?! My main was a warlock. Our guild would have loved to have you. I once convinced my disc to respec to shadow for one raid and I pulled aggro away from the tanks that entire night.
Lock was one of the only classes that had my number, I dog walked most of the rest. Did a little raiding as frost mage but never past Blackwing lair. Yeah the time sink was gross and I could justify it because my friends were in there and I was a dumb kid. Why didn't I just learn Spanish instead!?

I have a bigger problem with people who (regardless of size) feel the need to lift their entire PLO hand off the table and up to their eyes than those who insist that the small differences above are colossally important.
It’s like the “cards on the table” rule suddenly doesn’t apply in four-card games.
Do that with 5 cards, jumbo index. Also measuring across the botton on the fanned version wouldn't be accurate I don't think. I'm typically holding them closer to the middle.

5-card games are... silly. Fun, and you’re free to do it... but it’s still silly.
If I ever hosted a BigO game, I would expect it to be a shitshow on multiple levels, with card width being the least of our problems.
Hold them in the middle? I can’t even picture this.
(I keep my cards on the table, lift them up and fan them by drawing a finger across the backs, or the like, then lifting them.)
But even measured across the top, at the widest point of the fan, that width difference is very small if done with some precision: ~3.1" for bridge in my graphic, ~3.35" for poker-sized.
The total extra width for individual cards should never be more than a minor 1/4" difference, because you only need to peek at the indices, not the whole card face. This exposure occurs on the right or left side of the fan, depending on your preference. The added width comes on the opposite (far) side from where the indices are exposed, if you follow.
Sure, if the person fanning the cards is sloppy about it, that would make both types of cards fan out wider. But the “peek” width is identical regardless of the card size, assuming the decks have the same size indices, so again the actual difference should be small.

Cool story, but you’re angling here by exposing the indices on the bridge cards much less than on the poker size.
I could reverse that bias and get a different result.
Also your ruler is placed very imprecisely, with the metal end extending way past the edges in some photos, and hiding those edges on the left side, creating significant random variation.
(I was using a layout program to make sure the comparison was accurate and fair.)

wow. just wow. Yes, I play home games for fun. yes they are silly, but they are also really fun.
I'm not hosting to grind a win. If I needed to do that I'd go play hold em at a card house which is somewhat infrequent.
I'm not trying to convince or justify anything, just giving my point of view. You can measure and tell me how I'm wrong all you want, in play the difference in width is felt. It's especially true in our silly 5 card games where those not as keen on poker card size differences have also made comments on it.
