Sitting Out
Poker jumbo for sure. KEM in particular are beauitful.
But it does ultimately come down to preference
But it does ultimately come down to preference
I'm not following this thread closely because I don't really care about card size, but your comment here inspired me to look more closely at the diagrams. In your diagram, in the top half, the edges of the lettering are closer to overlapping the next card on the poker sized cards. In the bottom half of the diagram, the letters on the poker sized cards are more covered up by the next card.
I'm not accusing anyone of angling or anything like that and I couldn't care less who wins the debate, but something about the diagram is off.
wow. just wow. Yes, I play home games for fun. yes they are silly, but they are also really fun.
I'm not hosting to grind a win. If I needed to do that I'd go play hold em at a card house which is somewhat infrequent.
I'm not trying to convince or justify anything, just giving my point of view. You can measure and tell me how I'm wrong all you want, in play the difference in width is felt. It's especially true in our silly 5 card games where those not as keen on poker card size differences have also made comments on it.
There might have been a simpler way to notice that cards a quarter inch wider are a quarter inch wider when fannedI was using a layout program and the angle of the fans are precisely the same in both diagrams. It is an automated process, not subjective.
nl27 isn’t skill what are we doing here?!!?5-card games are for people who don’t actually like poker as a skill game, and would be happier playing craps.
No, the Poker Player's Championship is just a bunch of people who should be playing craps instead. They are weak-minded gamblers. There is no skill in triple draw, or 5 card PLO, or any other game. Here comes another no true scotsman fallacy lol.nl27 isn’t skill what are we doing here?!!?
Come again? Here comes another no true scotsman fallacy lol.
For those who haven't seen or heard this gem, enjoy. It's relavant to the turn this thread has taken. Or don't enjoy it if you're the grumpy judgemental type.

Mixed games require way more skill. Omaha hi lo alone is a whole different complexity, let alone other mixed game variants.5-card games are for people who don’t actually like poker as a skill game, and would be happier playing craps.
Sure, play it if you just want to gamble.
But don’t argue “the cards in all poker games have to be narrower because I need 92% of the deck in play every hand to have fun”
Yes, but have you ever met a poker player who didn't think they were really good at omaha hi lo?Mixed games require way more skill. Omaha hi lo alone is a whole different complexity, let alone other mixed game variants.
Dude, I've played lots. There are plenty of people that used to play every day that won't even consider sitting at the table now. So yes...I know people who enjoy the game, but understand they will get skinned alive.Yes, but have you ever met a poker player who didn't think they were really good at omaha hi lo?

“Poker” is also in the text.

What size tampon do you use?I saw these soaps for sale today in a local shop. They appear to be bridge-sized soaps. Perfect for people whose hands are too small to handle poker-size soap without it slipping away in the shower. LMK if any of you need me to pick up a few bars

Because you’ve been in a long term serious relationship?I cannot relate
Because you’ve been in a long term serious relationship?
Mmmm sure yea definitely that’s whyBecause you’ve been in a long term serious relationship?
That’s a new oneReflecting back, I’ve noticed that when we use poker-sized cards, fewer cards are accidentally exposed during shuffling, dealing, and when players fold their hands.
The real reasons bridge size won (rarely stated plainly)
From an industrial-systems perspective, the true drivers were:
1. Once major suppliers (USPCC, Gemaco, Fournier) aligned:
…the cost of divergence became prohibitive.
- Tables
- Discard racks
- Automatic shufflers
- Shoes
- Dealing shoes (for blackjack)
- Training programs
Bridge size became a systems lock-in, not a human-factors optimization.
2. Casinos optimize for:
A slightly smaller deck:
- Median dealer hand size
- Rapid training throughput
- Lowest error rates across thousands of hours
This is classic institutional ergonomics, not peak performance ergonomics.
- Is more forgiving for smaller hands
- Reduces edge-case discomfort
even if it provides no advantage to large-handed dealers
3. Bridge size:
Poker inherited the standard because it was cheaper and simpler, not because it was superior.
- Already dominant in blackjack, baccarat, and shoe games
- Simplified inventory and table conversions
- Allowed dealers to move between games without re-training motor patterns
4. Once Nevada and Atlantic City standardized on bridge size:
At that point, design justification followed adoption, not the other way around.
- Poker tours followed
- Televised poker followed
- International rooms followed
