On the back of a couple of great threads I've read recently where members have posted their chipping journey, I thought I'd add a my 2 pence worth. Hopefully some of the older sets make this thread worth a view.

I got my first 'dice chips' about 2004. Didn't even have dice on them. So they went, and were replaced with Nexgen Lucky Bees. No photos of the dice junk as I didn't even have a digital camera then, and didn't get internet in my flat until the following year. Then I discovered custom labels (naturally, my first design was hideous, thankfully don't have pictures either). Then I hit upon 'chiptalk' and my addiction took hold. Worked my through an online poker bonus too for a set of Nevada Jacks Skulls, not bad, but not really my thing.

As I was (and still am) in the UK, shipping and taxes were always a pita, but back then it was almost $2 to the pound, and you could buy home Paulsons from vendors for a buck each, so I cracked on a bought a few sets. Moving houses, supporting a student girlfriend, then getting married, having kids etc etc somewhat put a dent in budgets, and sets were sold and poker playing time reduced. In the last couple of years I've got back into chipping, still love getting those USPS parcels...

Anyway, enough chit chat. Lucky Bees...

Non denominated Paulson Pharaohs. There was a close out on these I remember at 75c each, I bought a butt load of the blues.

At some point I decided that non-denoms are the work of the devil so I changed them up for the denominated version.

Then I discovered actual Casino chips. Harlequin was selling some minty Paulsons from the Sahara, so NCV or not, I went for it. Still keep a small set, it's the only Vegas Casino I've played Poker in.

Picked up some PNYs, mostly from the original seller. They're just sex to look at, but too slippy. I even found some hot quarters that matched them, but moved them on too. @ovo benefitted there, I've yet to see any chips leave his house, but plenty go through the doors....

I picked up some Samurai Palace from a UK chipper. Great looking chips, shame BCC made so many wonky inlays.

I loved Jim's chiproom sales. The hunt is half the fun, is it not... Picked up some Bahamias, just because. Turns out that they feel the same as PNYs, who knew?

Speaking of group buys, they're awesome. I got some Hourglass chips, hotstamped by suckoutking. His stamping is brilliant, best I've seen. I over-oiled the chips, took ages to dry to being playable but they looked great! Not a fan of the mold ultimately, in look or feel. The set went to somewhere in Europe.

Then I saw some Rounders Replicas, left over from a group buy. Still can't remember why I sold them.

I picked up some Dunes replicas, too plasticky. I think I somehow swapped them for the ASM WSOP replicas. They're awesome. No idea why I sold them.

I picked up some stock H molds, was going to get them stamped... Didn't, and they went out the door.

Also found some Paulson solids (you'll see I like solids) with this weird symbol.

Missed the Pharaohs, so thought I'd give the new China Clay Pharaohs a whirl. They're not bad, but can't compare to the stack-like-a-brick clay goodness of the originals.

Saw some TRKs from a UK seller, always wanted to try some (major regret not getting some hot stamps when Dennis was still doing business, that big denomination is HAWT!).

ASM had a sale on solids, I got a tourney set made for under a buck a piece. Fell out of love with the inlay.

A few shots of sets. Some abbiati plastic Roulette chips in there, along with JM's Casino Antartica sample set.

Oh, NJ Skulls.

Bought a pile of Cleveland Horseshoes, perfect limit set. My players prefer NL, ah well. Chips were buttery perfect.

And onto the current/keepers...

My custom cash set. ASM solids on the horse head mold, design by J5 (I'll just add to his great reputation - easy to work with despite me being gormless, top bloke). Half the set has never been used so I've agreed to sell off a portion to a UK chipper (£ denoms, yay!) and J5 is working on a non-denom inlay to relabel the blacks.

Always a sucker for a solid hotstamp chip, I got aboard another group buy, for the Atlantic Club hotstamps. They're electric in person, especially when oiled.

If you got this far, well done... If it wasn't for the fact I'm laid up having had knee surgery, I'd never have got round to posting these.

Yours in chipping (with a huge dose of seller's remorse)

Awesome thread! Great respect to a fellow EU (for the time being) chipper. :)

Great sets, I really like these chip journey threads.

Ruh roh - ACL? Hope you're on the mend.

Thanks for the positive comments!

The least said about this omni-shambles the better. A point of note is that Scotland voted overwhelmingly to remain... but I digress...

Thanks, I am - not an ACL. Haven't been able to run or play football for about 2 years and had various scans. An exploratory op showed I had the knee of someone 20 years my senior, little cartilage left and arthritis. They tidied up what they could and I may get a knee replacement... but no more football, which is a bummer.

Looking at these chip journey threads make me feel a little better about my chip history.

Selling my PNY's is my only sales regret. They were a tad slippery, but I didn't think it was a detriment to the game when they were in use. Out of all the sets that I have owned. These were my favorite to shuffle. It was literally like shuffling butter. I absolutely loved it.

I owned 1200 of them at one time :(

Yeah getting old sucks. I've blown both ACLs - left in high school football, right last year playing volleyball - had to scale back a lot on what I do, I figured I'd rather be able to job and do more laid back sports activities later in life than continue on the current pace. I also see replacements in my future. Good luck with the recovery!

/end threadjack :)

I think I had about 1000 too, though never shuffled them much to get to that buttery-soft point of perfection. Don't make me regret this even more!

I don't think I'll do a history thread. I do think I will start up a thread and throw in images of all the sets that I have owned over the last 10 years (or at least sets that I can remember owning).

I have been going through old photo's on photobucket and my phone. I've found pictures of chipsets that I don't remember owning, but must have at some point.

I started with chips being worse than dice (lol) : https://www.pokerstore.nl/media/cat...9433887a97daa66f/p/o/poker-chips-kado-set.png

Than I moved to Dice chips because they were heavier.

I then bought some « Las Vegas » sign slugged chips.

I then moved to Dunes Commemorative chips (I still own) that I bought the first time I visited Spinettis.

After some time, I decided to go to for Paulson chips for my cash game. I went for a mixed hotstamp set and bought cherries, Lakeshore Inn 25c, Reno Fitz. 50c, Prosp. I Cruises $1, The Post $5 (although they are C&J) and Silver Star $25.

I then bought some other tourney sets that I sold in the meantime :
- Majestics ;
- Dunes ;
- CPS

And a WSOP Replica set that I also sold (SunFly chips from MrChip).

I’ve then bought a set of Nevada Jacks ceramics, a set of Clev tourney and Cincy Cash.

Today I still own :
- My hotstamp mixed set ;
- My NJ ceramics ;
- My Cincy Cash ;
- My Clev tourney ;
- My Dunes Commem’ : for sale

Kid.

are those stock H molds around? Those are nice.

There must be loads kicking about, Apache used to sell them (ASM chips), I recall they liquidated their remaining stock for great prices.

Cool journey, you’ve certainly gone through a lot of sets too lol

Sorry to hear about the knee. I feel your pain as I had 2 dislocations and one complete acl tear by the age of 28. I never did bother getting the acl reconstructed. I gave up football, but I don’t really notice it’s gone for the most part.

Cheers, I’ve just been through your journey thread too!

Much like @Irish I need to be fit for work otherwise it’s desk jobs which aren’t really my cup of tea. Years of probably picking up minor injuries just took their toll really. I’ve already picked up a set of golf clubs...
