The following may be the most ridiculously stupid angle I’ve ever seen someone try to shoot at a casino. I had to share because it simultaneously pissed me off and made me laugh.
For some context, this is a 1-2-5 PLO game that plays MUCH larger than that. Most stacks are well over $1000 and it’s regularly $75-$150 to see a flop. I very occasionally visit from Columbus and all the guys at the table other than me seem like regs.
Button straddle for $10, and SB blind raises to $20. UTG+1 makes it $75 to go and 6 see the flop. J32 with two hearts. Checks to Pf raiser (seat 3) who pots for 455. Seat 4 calls. Seat 6, 7 (me), and 8 all fold. Dealer burns and turns the 4s. Then everyone, including the dealer, notices the 5 seat has cards. 5 seat, who is action, says “I said call.” Of course, every time he has called previously, he has cut out chips. And nobody heard him say a word. And it’s clear to me that he loved the 4s. Floor is called over ...
3 and 4 seat are saying 5 seat’s hand is dead. 5 seat is arguing that he clearly said call. Floor correctly rules that the hand is not dead and it’s a premature burn and turn so the 4s will come back. Here’s where it really gets interesting. 5 seat has a very thick accent and perhaps didn’t understand that the 4s was coming back, but he understood his hand was live, so after hearing that, he pushes $455 in chips forward. Then the dealer pulls the 4s back. Then the 5 seat pulls his chips back! The floor rules that the 5 seat has now called and his chips must stay in. After much more arguing, we finally get to see the new turn, which is the Qh, putting a flush up.
3 seat (who has $1200 behind) checks. 4 seat ($25 behind) checks. 5 seat pots, effectively betting $1200 into a side pot. 3 seat grumbles and folds. 4 seat throws his quarter in. River 9d. 4 seat shows AhKhxx for the nuts. 5 seat shows 56xx.
So the 5 seat bet $1200 into a dry side pot on the river with air and got away with it.
After the hand was over, 5 seat said he only called the $455 because he had 56 for the straight. Worst angle ever?
Also, if anyone is ever in Cleveland and wants a massive PLO game where nobody seems to fold, ever, I highly recommend the Jack.
