There some outstanding examples of laudable generosity on PCF right now.

So what's with the spate of other recent and current sales of outright garbage?

I mean pure shit, like 28 chips, only two of which have any value over ten cents, being sold as "sample chips", for $15 shipped?

This is the kind of pure trash that cheapens PCF; the kind of crap that some low-lifes used to put into circulating grab boxes after taking out everything of any value.

Give 'em away, sell 'em for shipping cost only, or throw them away. Any of those approaches would make you look better.

Ah yes I remember this “garbage sale” from Chiptalk.

@pltrgyst, do you care to share some specific examples, or do I just need to do a classifieds search for “$15”, “28”, and/or “sample” to try to determine what ads are offensive?

I know this has nothing to do with me, and I have no reason to be read into it, but I really want to know! Nay, I need to know. :D
Ha it was a while ago but if I remember correctly, it was a vendor’s offering for some “in-process” clay chips. We paid for what was supposed to be chips at each stage of the manufacturing process similar to this:

Instead we just got a blank chip with some random spot pieces.

Larry,
First of, thanks for the advice and constructive criticism. I must say I've gone a long time on this site without getting into any argument or much less have someone speak harshly to me or about my threads. That's one reason I enjoy this site so much, the good people that don't easily get triggered by offensive threads like the one you speak of. I knew my Mt Rushmore chip was a big mistake!
Look, I certainly have no intentions of "cheapening" PCF. I'm sure your post here has the intentions making PCF a better place but I think a better way would have been to message me directly rather start a rant and rave thread, lol. Nobody is forced to buy what I'm selling. Some of the samples that I'm selling are from Apache or Spinettis, can't remember which, that I purchased when I first started looking into chips and were sold to me as a variety sample. I'm sure you're a rational man as any Florida man can be but next time just tag me in your rant. I'm happy to argue my side.
If anyone does need some trash I went ahead and slashed my price!

Wow awesome response and lots of credit to you for being as cool as a cucumber and so well mannered @SiouxperStack !

Still go a chuckle out of this though I’m sure not your intention.

Lol I remember that box, I was so excited to get it and when it showed up I remember thinking it was the flea market middle of the aisle table version of PCF. It even smelled like walking past one of those gag/incense/smoke shops in the mall from the mid 90s. I put some YAT table cloth sampkes and a few other little things and (eventually) sent it on... There were only two or three chips in there I would "want", but I wasn't going to get my first TRK samples by taking out the last cool chips in a sea of bleh.

One of a few very disappointing things around that time that took a little of the luster of this site away for me for a bit. I would still love to know what was in that box before it got to me, I know most people are generous but from what people said they put in to what was in there it was very lol.

As far as garbage chip sales go though, I'm all for them. I've got some majestic and Milano samples to sell and rents due, let's make this happen people, set the "market" price for me. ;)

I put in ~$75 worth of chips to get that box started.

A barrel of “James bond” $25s
A sample set of Ambassador Plaza roulettes
samples of several prototype Smith & Wesson giveaway chips
A bag of mid grade sample chips not “nice” chips but exactly the sort of thing a new member should want when we say get samples
1 large crown TRK of dubious provenance - reputed to be from the Victory Club in China Town San Francisco
A sample set of small crown “home” chips
A couple of card cappers
A couple of decks of cards

Sadly the box of goodies degraded quickly. People took lots and replaced with lesser quantity/quality stuff. Too bad, it had potential as a nifty group project.

Generosity like what the good doctor describes above was what I expected, and I also thought how cool it was going to be having a roaming box with nice stuff in it. There was no way I was putting in what I had planned when I saw what was in it, I was done with the "spirit" of it at that point because of how it seemed people were talking a big game and doing another.

I was off the site for a while and when I started checking back in I got caught up on the (f'ing awesome) boat chip buy and how some people (little bi!$*es) were crying they got left out. One of the coolest things a group of chippers could ever pull off and people couldn't be happy for other people. Haters. Unreal.

Between the box, getting snaked twice on a few things I really"wanted", the unreal explosion of assholes that showed themselves for who they really were over of all things a stupid election, and then reading the haterpalooza in regards to the boat chips I came away realizing that even in a community as good as this one people are people in the end and a lot of people will say one thing in public then be selfish assholes if they think no one is looking or they have the luxury of spewing on the internet.

Makes me really value and appreciate the people I have met/know from this site that are cool, the people who would give more than they take when nobody is watching.

Man. I wish I was here when the Boat Chips happened. I see it talked about as if it's some great war that PCF is still recovering from. I genuinely want to know the details.

I wasn’t here either, but it’s uncanny how the issue continues to come up years later. And some of the “old-timers” get angry when us “newbies” even make a reference to it.

Apparently, I am the root of all evil.

Tell us, Papa. Tell us about when the boats came to shore.

It is a very divisive issue. If you want a general story PM me or someone else and they will tell you. I know it just seems like entertainment to you but invariably when this is brought up fireworks will occur (not the good kind) . People are genuinely upset by this on both sides so it isn't a trivial thing.

I am not saying we can't talk about it but just bringing it up in the public forum will cause unnecessary drama and bs to be rehashed. I have seen it happen at least half a dozen times.

I sent him a hopefully unbiased rundown. I am with you on that. I'm kinda tired of even hearing about it.

I am not scared of conflict but just rehashing stuff is a waste of energy. Live and let live.
