Payback and Schmendr1ck at Vegas June 2021 (2 Viewers)

On the bright side, looks like your bad luck is hitting you no rather than at the tables…

I've been thinking that the whole day today. Definitely helping me keep a level head. On the plus side apparently it was a very small bird, no problems and we are boarded getting ready to push back. Looking like 12:30-1am walking in the door which is not great, but I'll manage. My son is fading fast. I'll probably post a final update when I can find a few moments and have the energy.

Thanks to everyone for following the thread and posting comments during the trip. Always appreciate the encouragement and support from this community.

Glad you've just about made it home! I've been dragging ass all day today - there's no way I would have been able to put up with another full day of travel.

Oh man, I've now taken two solid naps since arriving back in town. Work was rough today as my body still hasn't adjusted back to normal time yet. Then the real kick in the nuts is that we've spent the last two evenings packing box after box. My chips got packed and brought to the new house yesterday. Moving sucks, but moving after being a degen for a week, even worse. We are out of this house on Wednesday, so just a few more days...

This Vegas trip was really about as good of a trip as anyone could dream about. I was in Vegas a total of 5 full days and managed get in 50 hours at the table booking a win on my last 7 sessions and 66% of my sessions while I was there. The losing sessions combined didn't even equal a buy medium buy in loss, so I was never really in a big hole. I was actually commenting to @Schmendr1ck prior to the trip that I was stuck into a breakeven rut for a while and the session prior to Vegas + Vegas were the breakthroughs I'd been working for so that feels really good. Overall, while the games were tougher I didn't feel like the games were unbeatable by any stretch. Yes, lots of grinders, but some not very good ones. The thing I love most about the area though is just the choice you have of games. Every day we'd look at the Bravo and just pick where we wanted to go. Room selection and table selection is not a thing in Tunica. I get one table of PLO, one 2/5 and if I'm really lucky a 5/T game running. Meaning there is no game selection and sometimes am forced to play in a suboptimal game.

Beyond poker, we ate like kings for the week and it was amazing. Food is one thing I love about Vegas and we certainly weren't lacking. Hell, in my job I usually don't have time to sometimes get lunch or sit down so being able to do that for a week was a vacation by itself. Having someone around for the week forced me to step away from the table, think about something other than poker, and just talk about family and life. Like any meetup the conversations and friendships are often the best part of the trip and was certainly the highlight of the trip for me. Thanks @Schmendr1ck for a great trip and for sticking around after the MitS.

I didn't realize how exhausted I was after this trip, but it took me a good week to get back to normal. Vegas will do that to you, especially when it's 115°F every day. I had a pretty lazy weekend after getting home about 5am Friday, and I felt reasonably good for work on Monday. But between needing to catch up on family time and having a mountain of work waiting for me, I took a few days off from PCF and most other things.

I thought I was largely recovered until yesterday, when I just couldn't drag my butt out of bed. Luckily I've got a lot of flexibility from my employer, and I work from home part-time, so I was able to just stay in bed a couple extra hours and shake off the last of it.

This was a pretty damned good trip. Poker-wise, I can't complain. Overall I came out about $1000 up in 1-3 NLHE, playing 12 sessions over seven days. Unfortunately, I gave pretty much all of that profit back between my first casino PLO session and dumping a couple hundred into the slots (mandatory for Vegas even though I never play them any other time). My only poker regret is that I ended the trip on a shitty session, losing nearly three buy-ins on cooler after cooler plus a badly played pair of jacks.

I think I also gained about ten pounds on this trip, and it's @Payback's fault. We went to the Peppermill twice (amazing breakfasts in spite of the 60-90 minute waits) and had several other great meals both on and off Strip. It was fantastic to have someone around to talk about hands, drive me around town, have a beer or Scotch, and force me to try to eat half of a Giordiano's medium in one sitting. My stomach is still complaining about that one. We definitely need to do this again - it was a great trip and one of the best times I've ever had in Vegas.
