Pacific Star / Bud Jones Valuation (3 Viewers)

Wait what are these boats ya'll talk about?

To everyone:

is OP worried someone will buy somebody else’s 350% marked up chips instead of his?

So glad you said this. Been thinking it from the beginning. And won’t budge on the price of a tourney set that has been in the classifieds for how long?? Even while there is another set also in the classifieds that won’t move and is priced significantly less!

What’s funny is that we technically should let the market determine valuation rather than try to peg it to our liking. As with most everything being sold, cars, houses, other collectibles, etc. If my house is valued at $500,000 and I list it at $750,000 that’s my prerogative. Yes I’m shooting myself in the foot by probably having it on the market for near forever but I’m the homeowner and I’m doing what I please with the price. That for one gives right for anybody to sell what they want for whatever price THEY want.

Flip side of that, if another homeowner nearby wants to sell his for fair market value and ends up selling in the blink of an eye, I can’t get pissy and go barking around the neighborhood at why he did that. That’s also his business and he was wiser in selling at what he knew would make a quicker sale. Cool, I’m waiting for some donkey to come around with tons of cash so I can fleece his ass before he gets wiser knowing my house is too expensive.

Point here is, if others want to put holes in their feet by selling chips at a price viewed as too high of too low to someone else, let them. The market will ultimately determine the valuation. There’s a buyer for everything, period.

Using ballpark average cost, $2.50 ea. to $6.50 ea. is a markup of 160%.
Larry is correct vis-à-vis the PS chips, but the SB markup (last I checked), was well over 500%.

...And that’s net of cost (i.e., profit).

I have the only known playable set of Riverside Reno chips in the world. If someone wants it for 500% markup, call me.

Tempting, but my budget is around 400 bucks.

Then again in this scenario these houses are not being sold to other house collectors! Business versus hobby or "perceived hobbyists"

Thats what makes value in this area even a bigger gray area. I just went with an example that was more solid and has more metrics. Imagine trying to pin a value down on collectible chips. Not gonna win.

Like the saying goes.......”Poker chips aren't like classic cars, or silver, or gold... they are f****** poker chips for crying out loud, with no actual cash value or "collectable value" that you supposedly claim maybe those very few rare ones are collectable, but for the most part, not really. There is no actual significant history behind "most poker chips" that are being priced at $2 - $5 per poker chip. I will gladly take my money to the casino and get "cash value" poker chips that I can always keep or cash back out for my money if I ever wanted to. You couldn't hold a gun to my head to buy your overpriced poker chips you idiots. I don't care if Paulson doesn't make poker chips anymore or these other brand names older than Paulson. It doesn't make the value that much more because it's not produced anymore, or because only so many of them were produced, as if it's rare.” Hammer2171

I so wish that he would return, at least for a curtain call if not for an encore.

UKCollector, is that you!

Well, at least the boat buy wasn’t driven by profit motive....

News flash: The PS buy was a one-man buy, driven by sheer chip lust. I triple-damn guarantee you that there was absolutely zero profit motivation.

I feel fortunate to have one of them. AFAIK, there are six full-table playable sets in existence. I suspect that five of those are held by people who value them just as highly as I do.

And as I sell my chips off, my 1,310 PS chips will be the very last cash chips I hang onto, even after the Vineyards, etc. are all gone. Since I once offered all my chips for $100K and got no taker, I doubt anyone in PCF could or would offer enough "stupid money" to pry these loose. :cool

If I didn't have them, I'd sure have jumped on the present sale at 2.6x the production price!

That's my favorite saying. I say it in the mirror every morning...

I always had pegged BJ chips at worth around 1-2 each in my mind. Then I saw the recent classified listing with 1,100 Pac Star chips listed for $7,200 which is $6.5/ea. Is this really what these go for/trade for in value?

I think the answer to this is “Yep, and if you disagree, then these aren’t the chips you should own”. Simple

Not once in that text-wall quote does 'scrub donkey' appear. Disappointed......

My reaction when I see people paying hundredsif not thousands of dollars for a fucking Pokémon card. Just absolutely blows my mind. Gotta catch em all though right?! Lol
