Last year was a raisin bomb, this is more vanilla and dark cherries. I personally like this one much better, I was in the fence last year about getting a backup at the price (but ultimately did), I will probably be grabbing 2 more of these.

How does it compare to the regular Oban 14? Really wish they simply sold this at cask strength.

I’m a big fan of Oban 14, and I’m worried that the extra casks they use will completely change/mask the original taste. I know you wrote that the base profile is still there …but does it take a backseat? Is it barely noticeable or still the most prominent flavor?

IMHO you can 100% tell it's Oban, I feel like the cask finishing is done to complement that profile without overpowering it. And I'd say this one has more of the Oban profile than last year, I feel like those raisin notes last year were totally front and center in the dram. Proof on this was 104.2p vs 110.6p from last year's offering. This one felt like it punched above that proof, but take that with a grain of salt as when I tasted this it was first glass I've had in a month.

I've never had a bottle of O14, but I have had several pours. I remember liking it, but not being blown away like I am with O15 Sherry cask. I just took a tiny pour, and while I'm not good at identifying specific notes on my own, I can definitely taste the subtle raisin notes. I will at some point pick up a bottle of O14, just because it's a quality scotch at a good price. But I'm going to seek out this new O15 Port cask, because the one I have is so spectacular. I think it's worth double the price for both the finish aging and the extra proof.

My first ever attempt at an old fashioned with Scotch. Had to improvise using agave syrup instead, since I’m out of demerera syrup. As it turns out, it really works well with peated spirits! Not something I’d make on a regular basis, but this is pretty good!

No, I have a sweet tooth. This was inspired by an apple cider old-fashioned I discovered at Dollywood a few years ago. Better with cider (and a cider ice cube so it doesn't dilute!) - but this will do on a raw New England evening.

Great pour :cool I know the feeling on the empty bottle, I have 2 pours max left in mine.
 
Delivery 2 of 2 today! My daughter grabbed these for me near her college campus last month and muled them back for me!

She graduates in May, so these might represent the last of many fruitful whiskey hunts she’s done for me.

Got one more delivery coming tomorrow from a friend that just came back from visiting his parents in Florida!
