I have a lead on some unicorns, but at spendy pricing.
THH at $499
Van Winkle Family Rye $799.

15% discount if I buy both.

Thoughts?
pretty good deal if you get both (and tax isn't crazy). THH is about $100 too much, but the pappy rye is about $100 less than most secondary places.

If you're into BT ryes - I'd jump on it! (although the 2025 THH wasn't my jam...2020 THH is the move!)

Finally The Weekend. Cheers!

A couple pickups from my local inebritorium a little while ago.

Had a sample of the Pursuit triple mash bourbon, so I took a stab at the rye (with ryes being my go-to here as of late). The sherry finish of the New Riff was an easy pickup for me as I like their regular stuff, but have also become a bit of a junkie for sherry cask finished stuff as well. The reviews I read online were quite good, so I'm particularly interested in opening this bottle to see what's happening there.

My first whisky buy for 2026. I had an informal dinner (pizza and beers) with a new co-worker at my new job last night and learned he was quite the whisky aficionado with something like 500 bottles in his collection! Makes me look like a rank amateur at less than a dozen bottles, but I'm happy (??) to have him as a new co-worker to take advantage of his knowledge and stash! :ROFLMAO:

I think the short version of the story is don't break the multi-million dollar telescope and I might be in a good place. :sneaky:

My favorite is Red Breast Lustau, but any of the Red Breasts are excellent. I enjoyed the Blanton's but I think it is overhyped. Whiskey can be difficult to find in North Carolina. I was able to order a case of the Lustau at an average of $90/bottle The Cask Strength I had to travel to South Carolina to get, at a 15% markup to MSRP.

Quite a few Wake County ABC stores stock the RB12yr Cask Strength. I just picked up a bottle very recently and it cost me $110 +tax…which I believe is msrp. I’m pretty sure you can special order the Cask strength at any ABC store in the state.

Wake county has an online inventory search so you can see which particular stores have what you’re looking for. The state’s website also has a list of what they can special order as well. I use both of these tools to find what I want.

I only have a few pours left of my bourbon drinkers. Do I buy more drinkers or start opening the top shelf. Mind you I’ve grown out of bourbon and don’t fancy it as much anymore. Been focusing on Japanese whiskeys

I’ll give you my answer based on recent happenings in my life. After damn near dying 15 months ago, I’ve been reminded that tomorrow isn’t guaranteed. Crack open the good stuff, drink it and enjoy it. Rinse and repeat.

I drink far less than I used to (and still probably too much), but when I do, I want the best that I have available to me. Salute Alla Nostra!

But if I drink what I want that’s best then I should be trading my bourbon bottles for other bottles I like better.

You got any Japanese age stated whiskeys

Any anejo or extra anejo recommendations, that I can actually find and buy, from the whiskey crowd in here? I have a couple cheapies I'm sipping on (Pasote, Siempre) and they are really good.

Cazcanes Anejo
Artenom 1146
Don Fulano Anejo

Been drinking more out of my Riedel glass lately. It's fun to roll it around. Tonight I'm sampling an influencer pick that somebody sent me. It's a pretty terrible rye. At least I think there is a rye in here somewhere with the ethanol.

It won't be the last alcohol bankruptcy we see, but Kentucky Owl is likely done for. They owe $78mil and have 35k barrels stored with Bardstown (I think). Their parent company is Stoli, who is equally screwed. They want to do a Chapter 11 reorg, but the main creditors are like screw that, we want out now, this alcohol market sucks, and are insisting on a Chapter 7 liquidation. Group buy on a questionable K.O. barrel?

I'm in for a GB barrel at auction. 😉 Who's local? What is that, 160-200 bottles (after the angel's share for 10 years) per 53 gallon barrel?
