Yeah the proof, age and the fact that my local picked it all contributed to the pickup, and this one definitely punches.

It depends in the day, but usually my two favorite recipes are OESV or OESO. But I haven't had one I really didn't enjoy.

Switching up for fryeday - embarrassingly enough, I don't think I've ever had this Michter rye before.

Wow! Shocking that you have never tried that. So what do you think? This is hands down my favorite low proof rye whiskey. Probably the equivalent to Eagle Rare in bourbons. I nearly always have a bottle on hand, which reminds me that I'm currently out! :(

Yeah it's weird and kinda tough to explain, for the longest time these were near impossible to come by around here. And then when they started popping up, they had so many different offerings, I kinda glazed over them at first. It's a solid pour, pretty well balanced with sweet and almost savory notes, kinda like a smokey BBQ or sweet and sour sauce. Wish it had a little more proof is all. Very good bottle to have on hand for those who are always looking for that "smooth" whiskey.

I guess if we're talking about low proof rye, this is my guilty pleasure as a whiskey drinker. Super low proof, and Canadian, but I enjoy the flavor. Its kinda like one of the well whiskeys in my house. Certainly a staple in hunting camp, can have multiple pours around the campfire, without speaking in cursive, and still wake up early to hunt in the morning. Happy fryeday. I'd post some michters, but I just finished that bottle last weekend

All of the Michter's US-1 shelf staples are great low proofers. I love the sour mash.

this is exactly me with 4R. I just don’t know where to start and I understand that there really is a lot of variety in the product and so I’m hesitant to just dive in because I could get something I really like or dislike and not know how to compare it against what everything else is like?

Yep, totally makes sense, they have a ton of different stuff. I've probably only had about of quarter of their offerings (but they're all good), I really like the small batch select and then all the various single barrel barrel strength bottles.

Thinking about it again, considering most of what I drink nowadays is 100p+, that's why I never did much of the Michter stuff. By the time their base US-1 stuff became more available around here, I was on to the higher octane. And their barrel strength stuff (when you can actually find it around here) is all 3-4x retail.

I can't get a good bead on this one. It's similar to the 1897, but a little better and more refined. But not by that much. I overspendlt on this one because it was the first time I had seen it in the wild ($70), and I don't think I'll be getting another unless it's a lot cheaper.

I've never had that one. Since they do not make any bad bottles, I'm sure it's great!

Thanks @kirchhausen

$65 is MSRP on those I believe, so you didn’t overspend that much. I have one that I love, and one I’m “meh” on, and I love Old Forester

The blue (and green) labels are some of my favorite bottles, and I don't mind splurging a bit more for those because they're each really unique, offer more proof and some different than the 1920. This 100p single barrel was almost identical to the 1897 (it's like 1897 with a splash of 1920). Considering the 1897 is like $45 and the 1920 is $55, there's not enough of a difference hear in the 100p SiB for me. It'll definitely be a "try before you buy" kinda thing.
