Fryeday warmup.

Oban is one of my top four must-have, always-on-my-shelf scotches. Talisker, Lagavulin, and Longrow are my others.
You know what else is great about Oban? The more expensive offerings aren’t necessarily so much better. Some of the distillery offerings are solid but you can just buy 14 and feel like you’re not missing out stretching for the higher end bottles

Actually haven't tried

I miss the "old" Byron  :ROFLMAO:

OESQ and it’s fantastic! I never noticed just how unique this 4R profile is. Reminds me of Willett rye a little. Very floral and herbal.

First bourbon in a long, long time that hasn’t tasted sour to me. Maybe the taste is slowly returning to my previous “normal”.

So I'm drinking the bourbon my son bought me for Christmas.

I'm a noob but trying to appreciate bourbon & whiskey. The after taste is hitting me with green apples. I'm totally digging it but I've never read anyone review their tastings with that flavor. The next day I look into it and I found this:

What the fuck? So this $100 bottle of bourbon is skunked?? What say you connoisseurs?

I would say ignore that…if you like it, don’t sweat it

There are quite a few high quality Irish and Scotch offerings where there is a prominent green apple note present. When found, those notes to me are delicious. I’ve never found it in a bourbon, but I have on rare occasions found it in ryes too.

Green Spot Irish and Compass Box Orchard House Blended Malt Scotch are two great examples…both are fantastic

X2 to what @Billy Baroo said. I definitely get green apple in a few offerings (mostly irish whiskeys), and apple orchard notes in others, including a few bourbon. It may also just be you acclimating a bit, lots of flavors are crazy close and it can be easy to mistake one for another, especially if you've had something to eat prior. And sometimes your palate/brain may just be a bit "off" on a particular day.

I do this with vanilla and banana quite often, which initially may sound totally bonkers.....

Green Spot was the first thing I thought of. It’s so prominent I thought I was drinking flavored whiskey.

Interesting, alcohol is metabolized in the body to acetaldehyde and then to acetic acid. If you can't convert the acetaldehyde to acetic acid (via acetaldehyde dehydrogenase) the excess acetaldehyde is mostly responsible for hangovers (nausea/headache etc). So, hangover in a bottle?!
