To be clear on my positions

I am not against auctions.

I am against shady practices during auctions.

Maybe only bids can be placed in auctions. Or comments have to be in a separate post do they can be moderated without affecting bids. Just brainstorming not making specific points.

Well not meant to be, but if you take things pretty wrong I think.

I meant any contribution is to this is good, even if there’s disagreement and discussion.

But hey if you insist on being offended go ahead.
“Cool. ...comeback when you have any kind of contribution” was meant to be a constructive comment? My bad, my bad.

In my opinion, private deals between active/potential bidders that artificially deflates the sale price for the seller is unsavory. Sellers are aware that the starting price is treated as the reserve, but there are a bunch of good people here who will set the starting price under the perceived market value (and be cool if it sells for cheaper). I don't claim to be pious be any stretch, but if 2 or more people are willing to bid to $X (presumably the "market value" because that is what they, the market, would pay) but make a deal for one to win for $X - $100 and split the lot, I personally view that negatively.

Bidder 1. $XX
offers to sell fracs $(Y) dollars per frac to bidder 2

Bidder 2. Nope. $XX

Bidder 1 $XX
Counteroffers $(Y-.50)per frac?

I didn’t make this up
In the above example, what happens if Bidder 1 contacted Bidder 2 via PM? Nobody would ever know, and chips would move about as they always had. The discussion in the actual thread was the opposite of shady - it was in broad daylight, for all to see.

Auctions don't have to be for the best interest of the seller. The interaction above (if it was agreed upon, which I believe it wasnt) prevents a set from being artificially inflated.

If you aren't willing to take less than $X in an auction, set the minimum price above $X. The auctioneer never loses.

If “artificially inflated” means stopping competitive bids then it should be an issue for the seller. I thought that was the point of auctions anyway, to get bids.

For Sale threads are where you should make deals, not manipulating auction bids, especially not in the sellers face. If you want to make deals at least show the seller some respect and do it privately.

If deals are taking place on auction threads perhaps they should be for sale ads instead.

I respect your opinion. It was my initial thought anyway.

After more thought I no longer agree, but I can still respect the differences in opinions.

What I don’t like about auctions is the price fixing and manipulation - “if you quit bidding against me I’ll sell you the fracs for cheap” type of comments are manipulative and not appropriate for discussion in the auction thread. Do what you want via PM, manipulate and fix all you want, just don’t diss the seller by doing it in his thread.

I’m sure you can go back in some auctions somewhere and see where I’ve probably done the same thing

You mean like this?

I haven’t read this whole thread so my apologies if this is clarified elsewhere. But are you against shady practices during auctions? Or are you just against shady practices by people other than yourself?

Next time I’m bidding in an auction against you, I doubt I’ll be so quick to tap out and give you the chips you want...
