New Plastic Cards on the Market Thread (2 Viewers)

Oh weird, they have the same ones in plastic coated

Holy crap I LOVE those backs. But one of the only hard fast rules I have for cards is jumbo index :(
4 pips version is widely available but as far as I remember jumbo index version was never produced.
And I prefer Old Trophy vs. Golden Trophy, my first plastics...

I received my replacement decks today. The feel of the decks are great. Similar to Copags but a little less stiff. The pip sizing and style is great. They have a very strong odor (pvc I’m assuming). The corners seem like they were cut differently on each side. I will post a picture of the corner of the deck. Some of the corners stick out higher than the others. Decks are still useable because there’s too many corners that stick out to track them.

I can't believe this. I'll have to crack open a deck now despite wanting to keep mine new to check for this.

If this is the case, another indictment on Modiano's QC. They shouldn't get anyone's business if they keep putting out shit.

What are those?

This was on my red and blue deck. I have 2 more of each still on the way. I would be surprised if it’s not like this for all of them.

This is the last time they get me if mine are like this too, but you're likely correct if both the red and blue decks are like this

So @Buge is right. The corners of each card on these Modianos were all cut differently.

Out of the box

Versus shuffled in one direction

Then the cards flipped around at random

Annoying and definitely a marker of poor quality control, mostly laziness, but they're fine and usable for home game use. They wouldn't pass casino QC, that's for sure.

That said, the cards do feel great. Closer to the Platinums in terms of flex than the Texas Poker line. They're a bit stiffer than the Texas Pokers.

That is why Abiatti doesn't require Modiano services any more...

And to anyone wanting to buy some of those... Spend some more and buy Platinium

Platinums are $40 USD a set up right now. Hard sell for any casual home game host. Just buy desjgn at half the price. Even new Dal Negro from Spinetti's is $15/setup with free shipping at $69+.

DalNegro are bargain... Good quality for acceptable price
As for Platinium I can get them in Poland for abou 25 USD, they good for years

Definitely annoying but not a deal breaker for me. I like everything else about the cards minus the strong odor.

It makes me wonder though. You can’t buy these cards anywhere except from some eBay seller. Where did this guy get them? Could they be factory seconds?

I'm starting to think this. These would never pass QC for use in a casino.

So @Buge

This statement is worrisome. If they wouldn't pass QC control for a casino, they shouldn't be considered ok and usable for home game use for any game involving money either even penny ante stakes.

The way the corners were cut, I don't see any way as to how even the best edge sorter would be able to pick cards out of the stub. Depending on how the cards were rotated, you'd have a lot of protruding corners or very few. Every single card is like this. Annoying, yes, but usable. Casinos just wouldn't use them because the corners and cuts along with back art should be perfect and not have any irregularities.

Kardwell has a $10 off of $50 coupon for Dal Negro cards until 3/22. Would cover shipping essentially for a small order of 3 or 4 set ups that will get you to the $50 threshold. $17/setup for the NTP setups is a great value, IMO. $15/setup for the virgolones (same stock as desjgn's latest offerings) is good value too.

Appreciate the tip. But FWIW, I tried to order a setup from them last week and the shipping was $18 and change. So I ended up ordering two setups - same shipping charge.

Those NTP Black Jack Rose are poker size?

I was shopping around last week and swore they had a cheaper shipping option for up to 6 setups. I don't see that option any more.
