Is anyone keeping up with this one? We can talk about it as we go. I’m currently 2.5 hours into episode 1 and it’s pretty ugly so far.

thanks for the reminder.

when you say ugly....do you mean annoying because its PH and Dnegs or the play is ugly?

Nice! I didn’t realize it was available yet. The last match between Hellmuth and Antonio was great.

I guess we can’t have this conversation without spoiling the show so those of you who plan to watch, just proceed with caution.

I don’t understand how Phil keeps limping out of position. Daniel is killing him over and over for it. So bad!

OMG! This has been an unbelievable last hour!

The one thing I can say is that I hate how Daniel continues to play small ball when he has such a demanding chip lead.

I’ve never seen some shit like that in my life!!!! I finally finished all 6 hours.

I just finished too.
Anything can happen in this format, and I guess these guys proved it.
All I have to say right now is that this dual looked like it could have been played last year - I didn’t see anything out of Daniel that would suggest he’d just studied Heads-up GTO for 4 months. It looked to me like he decided to just sit back and exploit Phil Helmuth.

I’m happy DNEGS lost. He was way to cocky towards the end and couldn’t finish hellmuth off! Props to Phil on never throwing in the towel like Daniel was implying, and shutting him up.

Daniel was definitely being a dick. I'm sure Phil Hellmuth can easily bring that out in you. But still.

Man, I really miss the days when Daniel wasn't a dick. What happened?
Daniel also use to be a fairly loose player, and now he has tightened his game up. One of the reasons why that lasted so long is they both can nit it up pretty good.

Was it just me or was Nick Schulman fairly upset that Phil was winning. He seemed disgusted that Phil’s style of play was successful.

I don’t think he was upset just the kind of guy he is IMO. He definitely doesn’t agree with the way Phil plays, and some of his moves, but I don’t think many pros do. He has his own way of playing the game but I mean why change if it’s what has worked for him his whole career? Phil is one of a kind and makes many questionable moves that make you scratch your head, but I must say he always comes out on top and loves the game of poker.

Watching this now. I love it. Reminds me of when Jennifer Tilly wiped her ass with Tony G if anyone saw that. The first half Tony G laughing and making jokes. The last half he barely said a word. Priceless!

Phil bests Daniel again, I thought Phil played terribly though. He bluffed WAY too much and chased WAY too much and almost never pressed his advantage with anything but high pairs which almost always were answered with a fold. He basically let Daniel control the size of nearly every pot except the ones Phil threw outrageously sized bluffs at.

Still, if Daniel loses next that will be 6 and 0 for the poker brat against two "friends" that dog him publicly, INCESSANTLY, as being washed up and only good in the WSOP events. Bravo, Phil, but you are going to have to play better in round three to score the hat trick against Daniel. After reviewing this latest episode, I doubt Daniel will lay down for even half the huge bluffs you got away with tonight.

all meaningless IMO. sample size is negligible. id like to see the outcome after at least 10k hands online.
It is and it isn’t. It’s pretty meaningless regarding who is the better NLHE player. As far as who’s good at heads-up NLHE turbo tournaments? I think you have to acknowledge that Phil does well in this format.
Part of me feels bad for Daniel, because I’ve always liked the guy, and he’s clearly putting a lot of effort into improving his game, yet keeps getting effed by results. But he’s becoming such a condescending twat in his interactions with Phil, that he’s tough to root for, unless you really hate Phil.
(But the way Phil talks, he pretty much deserves that attitude from Daniel and the poker world. Strange days.)

So Daniel can only play online? He didn't fair all that well against Doug, did he?

And I'm sorry, but so much is missing from online poker, I think that is what is irrelevant.

And Daniel doesn't agree with you. He has said multiple times of Phil that this specific heads up format (deep stack vs 40 big blinds) is what makes Phil's style of play ineffective. So essentially, Phil even met his loud mouth critics on THEIR playing field and beat them. 5 in a row now.

And your argument proves too much. Why not 20,000 hands? 200,000 hands? I know, 2,000,000 hands minimum to draw any conclusions. Why don't we just have them each build their own computer algorithms and let the algorithms play 200,000,000 hands to find out the GOAT poker player?

But Daniel and Antonio and a host of others had been saying the exact opposite. Phil put on his boots and showed them whats what.

Do his opponents do the same? Do they say "yes, WSOP bracelets are a legitimate, objective measure of poker greatness and we are going to catch you in that, Phil?" No, of course not. Easier to be a guttersnipe and bully from outside Phil's strongest venue. Well, Phil had enough, kicked in the front door to THEIR house, and so far is throwing them out on their ears, handily.

Part of me feels bad for Daniel . . . But he’s becoming such a condescending twat in his interactions with Phil, that he’s tough to root for . . . .

Exactly.

Phil is a baby, and while alot of his attitude is put on for branding purposes (can anyone seriously doubt that?), alot of it isn't. But that is part of what makes him fun to watch. Criticize that if they want and the whole world would be with them. But they don't, they use that to say that that is all Phil is - an entertaining poker personality - and that he is not even in the running to be considered the greatest of all time. Clearly, he is not just a personality. If they don't agree, well, what do the last 5 matches say about THEM? They have less personality, are less fun to watch, AND aren't as good at poker?
