My Journey As A Professional Poker Player (28 Viewers)

Saw the 10/10/25 running so headed over, gl us!

Bought in for 4k, call a raise to 50 with KQQ5 one suit in MP, action raises to 250, four to a flop

:as::ks::6h:

Checked arpund

Turn :qh:

We check to action who raised, he bets pot. Folded to me, 1k to continue.

I give him the "if I show will you fold?"

His response tells me he does not have the nuts.

I jam for 3725 total. He thinks for awhile, eventually decides to call and only runs once

Binks a heart river and immediately jumps up to celebrate

I am now stuck 4k, buy in for 1k. Very next hand pickup AAT9 with one suit, he raises again, two callers, I pot to 375, he repots to isolate, we go once

He makes a straight lol

I mean this is a fucking joke at this point. I handled the first two posses good, but this is too fucking much

Nit raises to 100 pre on my left, few callers, I pot for 500 with :ad::ac::js::5d: and get two callers

Flop :9s::8d::6d:

We shove our last 850, they both call. We run twice, nit makes runner runner bpat on both fucking boards

Stuck 6k, my daily limit is 8k and I am NOT putting another fucking dime on the table, heading home

Might be time to take a few days off.

Surprisingly I'm not as upset as I expected I would be, despite this being my biggest loss ever and taking some positively brutal beats early to start my month off.

The first two losses to the whale I shrugged off pretty well. The loss to the nit did set me off a bit because the fucker went runner-runner full house on BOTH fucking boards, I mean, how bad can I possibly run lol?

But on my drive home I had a come to Poker Jeezus moment. I'm playing fucking amazing. I've got these guys putting their money in SO fucking bad, getting spots where I have opportunities to win massive fucking pots as a monster favorite over and over and over. In the long-run that's going to print me money. In the short-run it's kicking my ass.

I played today so was taking tomorrow off (normally I'm off today and play Mondays) but will be back at it on Thursday, so had three days off in a row planned regardless of todays outcome.

I should have had a stack over 10K today, instead I lost 6k. That's the way it goes sometimes, but I feel good about my decisions, reading situations and playing well.

I give him the "if I show will you fold?"

Do you mean, "if I fold will you show?"

His response tells me he does not have the nuts.

Curious what his response was.

Also, with the variance in PLO, I see a 60-40 advantage as pretty far from "putting their money in so fucking bad." You're supposed to lose that hand two times out of every five runouts. You have way more PLO experience than I do...am I wrong on this?

It is an easy call for him even if you turn your hand face up before he calls. He is getting a great price to call. He didn’t need to fill up to win, just the 2 pairs he turned each time was already good, filling up was just rubbing salt in the wound (and 1 less out for the second run).

I use "if I show, will YOU fold?" to get a read on opponents. It catches them off guard and when they process what I'm actually asking them, you usually get a read on them. If their response is genuine, comfortable, etc. then they aren't concerned about the situation and you can be pretty certain their hand is strong.

If, however, their response or chuckle seems forced, generally my experience is that they are not all that strong and I go with that read and either call their bluff or checkraise, etc.

As far as the 60/40 hand, you guys are missing ALL the other hands I've been getting slaughtered on recently.

Yesterday I have AAxx vs TT42 on a flop of AT7 rainbow (he was 6-7% equity) and he calls my flop raise (another player bet) and then the turn is a 3 and he calls my $200 bet even though he vocalized that I was a tight player and he felt he should be folding. At that moment I KNEW he had flopped either a set of 10's or a set of 7's and I had his ass. But then he's bailed out with a miracle 5 on the river, and only has about 500 behind in a pot that is about $800. So he went from 6% to 12% to 100% on me to turn what was a day that was going to be +$2000-3000 into a +$500 one.

Then today I read my opponent right and get it in for my 4K stack with 78% equity and he goes once and binks it. Then the very next hand I get him to put 1K into the pot with J875 against my AAT9 and he rivers a straight with a 643 on the board.

The cherry on top was not that the nit beat me with 40% equity in that spot, but HOW he beat me. He went runner-runner full-house on BOTH boards. The first board the river card giving me the nut flush which is no good. That's just positively gross as he finds every King and 9 in the deck to scoop me.

So it's just a succession of rough beats all in a short span of time that can be extremely frustrating. I REALLY want to have one of those 10K+ days and today could've been one of those if I didn't lose as an equity favorite over and over and over.

It was irritating because the guy while I was thinking after he bet 1K on the turn had said "just put it in and we'll go twice, or we can go once, whatever you want" and then when I wound up putting it in he switched it up and decided to run it once because he knew he was behind and he's unlikely to scoop me going twice (fwiw anytime someone tries to switch up on me we're once for life, homie don't play dat!)

But, as I said, I feel a lot better about it all than I expected. It was a little nerve racking making that checkraise for $3,725 when I didn't have the nuts and was just trusting my gut on the situation and finding out I was correct. So I'm getting more comfortable playing for bigger amounts, despite the brutality that was today. I'm making good plays, I'm reading spots correctly and I'm getting the math in my favor and my opponents are making errors. They'll make me a billionaire eventually, they're just not going to make it easy lol

Shake that shit off brother. Take a few days off to relax, do some skating, build a Hello Kitty computer thingy, get freaky with the Mrs.

With a big enough sample size, you'll run true to your equity. Just be sure to play stakes you can afford so those $5k+ loss days don't pile up, forcing you to sell your body just so you have enough power to make Kraft Mac 'n Cheese.

With the new 1Gb fiber coming tmrw I can get freaky with the Mrs and stream it for profit!

10/10/25 plo is the roller coaster from hell for even the best players. 6k is not a big loss in that game. Keep swinging, and definitely Keep ur hands and feet in the cart at all times……..

Listen to this man. Anthony, you're going to work @tabletalker7 to death making him build all of those stages if your run bad continues like this.

Do that too often and they’ll have a read on you as well.

One thing I relearned recently on my own downswing playing PLO(~50+ buyins) is that Variance never knows the size of the pot. All the top 10 sized pots I played were against hands where I was at least a 70% favourite. Unfortunately, I lost them all.

The biggest pot I played during the downswing, 8000BB+, ended up all in on the flop. This is PLO!

Man I miss that game. All wealthy older gambly style players who just wanted to "gamble" because the only casino in the city was shut due to COVID. I dont think the games will ever be that juicy again. Fingers crossed they are.

He spike the one outer on ya? :8s:

SUCKA DEALER!!!!
On top of it all is that no one noticed the straight flush except me, as the other players on the table were all saying he was drawing dead on the flop. The dealer went to collect his cards and award me the pot but I was like he has a straight flush. If I shut my mouth it would have been awarded to me.

Yeah, that sucks big time, but at least you aren't some scumbag trying to get away with that sort of shit. That one beats my worst beat by a mile, which was losing as a 97.5% favorite.

Yeah I like winning but not like that. I just dont know when I'll be a huge favourite like that again AND be playing for a HUGE pot. Like I said earlier, Variance doesnt know the size of the pot.
