So I originally came to PCF to find Casino style/quality chips to play with at my home poker games with the family. I have been using the ceramic Day of the Dead chips for a couple months now and I love them! They feel good, they sound good, they look awesome, i don't feel guilty throwing them into a crashing pile in the pot and more importantly, I dont mind eating Cheetos while playing. My dilemma here is I am hooked to Pauslon chips now.... the chalkiness, the sharp edges, the color combinations and my favorite is the rad patterns the edge spots make on barrels and racks.. uggghghghfg. sorry.

My point is now that i am close to having a playable set.... I FEEL GUILTY USING THEM. I dont want to get them dirty or get flee bites on the edges. I want to organize them in creative edge spot patterns in the trays and put them on shelves to look at. I am afraid of using the chips to play with so that i don't mess them up or get them dirty. Anyone else have this problem or am I being dramatic?!?!

I totally understand where you're coming from. I have some chips that I bought in Mint condition that I don't use in games but I also have racks of the same chips that I will play with. Which set do you have that you don't want to use, maybe someone has some Casino Used ones that you can actually handle without having an OCD attack.

I feel the same way bro, I have a bunch of sets still mint never put in play, and will stay that way because the people I play with have no apreciation for chips, I once had to tell someone put down the chips cus they were putting one chip between two chips and squeezing all three and pulling the middle chip out causing them to make a loud snap..... crying in my head lol

put them in play and you'll quickly forget about it. It's like that first scratch on a new car. Hurts, but then you can relax. Also, if Paulsons get dirty it is very easy to clean them with a bit of water and TSP. Not even much elbow grease. I've gotten chips covered in hooker juice to be sparkling clean. The water afterwards was definitely a bio hazard though.

what's tiddly-winks

Prepare to have your mind blown.......

and to the OP.... I say use and enjoy the chips, ALL my chips get in to play whenever i can. If i have some pretty rare ones i might ask people not to use them on scratch tickets, or throw across room. But those rare ones normally only come out when other chippers are around, so not a problem really.

I don't know if my mind was blown, but I do know that those guys have never been blown.

You’re being dramatic. Get them in play or sell them to someone who will!

Just use them. What’s the point in collecting chips you wont use.

All chips should be used. If not it’s almost like buying a dog and keeping him in a cage 24/7. Use or release!

Use them, dammit! If you don't want to use them then you should have bought a backup set! (See what I did there?)

THIS...…………...Chips "want" to be played. They yearn to be shuffled and caressed. Please don't punish them by making go without the attention that they deserve!!

Don't punish the chips. Punish the jack ass that is treating them like that. A swift backhand to the face should get his attention.

All my chips usually get played. I do have chips I will not play if I know certain players are coming. Those that are rough with chips and like to do a two foot high splashed pot. These are usually the maniacs who throw money around, usually lose and are good for the game :)

In those games I like to use the coin in center Sahara’s.

When you host a poker game there are a lot of things to worry about. In order of worries...
  1. Bank coming up short
  2. Last minute cancellations
  3. Players showing unannounced
  4. Stains/damage to the table
  5. Stain/damage to the carpet
  6. Tilted player sucking the fun out of the room
  7. Damaged cards
  8. Fun drunk guy becoming drunk asshole guy
  9. Chip damaged/missing
  10. Fat guy breaking the chair
  11. Running low on food/beverages
  12. Home invasion
Some of these things will eventually happen, others (hopefully) won't. You can stay vigilant and try to curb problem behaviors, but eventually someone will sneak one past the goalie. Don't sulk, play on.

Use them, that’s what they are for. If you’re going to hold them as an “investment” don’t. The reality is they are just clay discs that are an instrument for the game.

That is a great list, I've had 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8 (most common), 9 and 11. Tile floor so 5 is out. Lucked out on not dealing with 7 yet. Really surprised 10 hasn't happened. 12 would be the last home game I ever hosted.

I had #7 happen repeatedly one night when my brother was learning how to shuffle. After the second set of copags was destroyed he got sent to remedial card handling school.

#10 is something I have never seen at poker but I did have happen in college and at a work party. It is epic, funny and sad all at the same time. When it happened in class the student walked out and never returned. When it happened at the work party everyone was drunk and cheered. The other fat guys cheered the loudest and had a ”im so glad that happened to him and not me” mentality.

Put all your chips in these and use them constantly....problem solved.....

I've had all but 12 .. except:
6) (it was me)
8) (it was me)
10 (chair broke, but not due to weight ... and it was not me)

Has anyone on here had a home invasion? There is this group of guys that play with at the casino I go to and they used to have a 2-5 home game that got robbed at gunpoint. The story gets told by many regulars and apparently it was inside job.
