So I mainly play with around 6-8 people in small home games but wanted to see if exploring around here would be the right choice. Right now I am eyeing a much cheaper set of 500 chips w custom denoms from chipdaddy for .25 per chip but wanted yall's opinions on this. Do you guys think its better to just get a cheaper starter set to feel things out or just commit to a slightly nicer set of chips? Any advice or recommendations welcome, thanks guys.

If you’re looking at slugs, I found discountpokershop to have the best prices for barrels.

As I’m sure many other folks will recommend, definitely snag some samples before committing to anything too pricey.

Only you can decide, but here are some things to think about...

Do you like like quality stuff?

Do you have the budget?

Are your stakes high enough to need secure chips that can't be easily bought for cheapand smuggled into your game?

If you get a high end set with a standard breakdown you can always sell it later for a similar price.

A custom set is the end game, but take your time and do something better than "ppton's poker club/room/casino."

Best value these days are Tina hybrids. Get them from the broken Arrow vendor's group buys.

I am in the same boat as OP I’ve been doing some research and I think I want majestics from Apache it’s just hard to find $.50, $1’s and $5’s. Any advice or other chip recommendations?

There are some $1s and $5s in the classifieds right now (and $0.25s, which are more versatile than $0.50s anyways)

At a .25/chip budget the Casino Royale slugged chips over at Apache aren't a bad option, IMO.

So I ended up buying a Versa Case and went with Majestics.
(188) $.25
(150) $.50
(200) $1
(200) $5
(200) $10
(100) $25
(50) $100

Super excited to use these for a home game! Thanks for the recommendations!

To the OP, it’s mainly budget driven. I have several sets (all cash sets) that are a little more expensive and definitely would have been out my consideration earlier in my PCF career.

What comes around does actually go around as I recently built a large tournament set from a discount store online and at $14 a rack they’ll do fine.

Good luck.
