Was playing Monopoly last night with the family, and decided that I would finally start looking at getting chips to replace the paper currency. Thought I would throw out a wanted ad to see what I could shake loose. Ideally would be something that wouldn't cost an arm and a leg, and that could be flexible enough to use in multiple board games. Anyone have anything that could fit the mold?

I remember a cool little hotstamped denominated set that sold last year (by @kaimat) that would have been perfect for some board games.

That set didn't have $500 denoms, which I think are the highest denom in Monopoly, but it had $100 & $200 denoms.

I found this in a forum about Monopoly: "Prior to 2008, the standard game came with $15,140. Since then (which is when the game had a graphical refresh), the MONOPOLY bank has been comprised of $20,580." The set that sold last year had a total bank of $12,050. (If the $200s were used as $500s, there's be a bank of $19,550.)

I might look into Royal blanks:

I'm a fan of classic monopoly money colors. I'd go with:
$1 white
$5 red
$10 light blue (bottom right with 8 lime inserts) would need 3 shades of yellow/gold/orange to really match.
$20 green
$50 dark blue (top right, knockoff of horseshoe 25000 chip)
$100 yellow
$500 orange

Looking at modern monopoly colors, the Tikis fit best (slight deviation from casino colors):
$1 white
$5 red
$10 blue
$20 green
$50 purple
$100 black
$500 gold (most important monopoly color, IMHO)

I have some diamond mold Cali colored solids that I was going to mill and label for Monopoly. PM if you want to see some pics

We use $1- $5- $25- $100 & $500 denoms for our Monopoly games. Works great.

Each player gets to start...
Total bank per player $1505 - $5 more than traditional.
5 $1’s
10 $5’s
10 $25’s
2 $100’s
2 $500’s

Total bank of chips we use...
30 $1’s
60 $5’s
100 $25’s
80 $100’s
30 $500
Total Chips 300
Total Bank using chips $20,840
Traditional Total Bank is $20,580

Awesome, thanks for this. So I just need 30 PCA secondary $500s, and I can just use my PCA set! HA

Appreciate the input so far everyone.

What other games use currency other than Monopoly where chips could be useful? I am drawing a blank at this point.

So I bought the board game today, and decided to make a mock-up based on the color scheme of the money from this game, and use an inexpensive chip at .15/per. I’m hoping I can get it all made for around $100 or so!

Could also go with custom denomination Tiki Kings:
https://www.brpropoker.com/store/p44/Semi-Custom_Tiki_Kings_Poker_Chip.html
$1 white
$5 red
$10 yellow/gold
$20 green
$50 blue
$100 black
$500 purple

Edit: can save money requiring only custom $10-$20-$50 chips. The $1-$5-$100-$500 are standard colors and denominations. Damn, now "I" want to do this ;-)
That’s a good idea or customize the Valentino’s, they would fit the monopoly tg new better. Not sure if you can change the name on these and have it include a monopoly reference
