So I've read several comments so far commenting that Matsui plaques are significantly superior to MSK ones, but not actually why this is the case.

I've got a few MSK Casino Royale plaques, which I know Matsui also did a run of. So what is it about Matsui plaques that makes them so much better? Also, do NONE of their plaques have the raised edged that prevent them from sitcking together?

From the pics I've seen on here, the images on the Matsui plaques look much sharper (I do have some msks and they're a bit blurry in person). I've never touched a Matsui plaque so I can't comment on how they handle. However, for like 25% of the price I'd probably go for MSK if I were to have some done myself.

At the Parisian in Macau... it’s not my stack, it’s a friend’s....

Is this Matsui?

Uhh if I had to guess I'd say that's B&G xD .

Speaking of which, I don't have any B&G plaques, but I'm very interested in them. They're said to be the highest quality of all.

I can't comment on the quality difference but there definitely is a price difference. I believe Matsui are around 2x or 3x the price of MSK.

Difference in quality is night and day. I had both MSK and Matsui. Kept the Matsuis. The Matsui plaques are AWESOME quality wise, but with quality comes price. $18 to $29 per plaque. I never see the Matsuis discounted beyond that. I suspect that's because anybody that has played with them knows how awesome they are. Worth the money IMHO.

I have the same matsui’s you do and some of the acf plaques. I’ll see if I can remember to do some side by side pictures
Please do, very interested :) . Plaques just seem to be ultimate embodiment of casino opulence :D .

To me B&G then matsui then MSK it is all about printing and color. Now is matsui that much better then MSK I would say yes but for the budget I would say no. Then again I would prefer Matsui unless I was under a price point.

Ok, took a bunch of pictures just on my work bench so excuse the lighting. MSK, B&g and matsui plaques. Keep in mind the MSK and matsui are brand new and the B&g is casino used.

The corner detail on the B&g was worth it’s own picture because it means air can always escape from a stack of plaques

Does anyone have Abiatti plaques? Would love to see the comparisons between them and BetG.

Plaques sticking together is definitely a complaint from some people about the Matsuis.

The blades MSK ones in my pictures are the new MSK printing

The new printing seems much clearer than I remember my MSKs being.

Thanks!!

Very interesting, thanks everyone :) . The printing on my MSKs is really pretty sharp; they're also very new. Got more coming in, and also I managed to snag an SBM B&G plaque - looks beautiful from the pictures :D .

The B&G are very nice but I like the Matsuis the best for some reason, don’t know why. I’m more of a simple/clean person for the most part when it comes to design so I like the matsui look much better than the fancy, more intricate B&Gs (typically).

As far as msk->matsui there is no comparison in my mind, the 100s and 20s in the Matsui plaques are two of my favorite things I’ve acquired during my mini poker chip obsession, they are gorgeous and blow the msk out of the water in every way-including price obviously.

It’s not a question of comparing, can you compare China Clays to Paulson long and short canes??? I mean, they most definitely do the same job, and most people wouldn’t care one way or another....but that’s not why we chip, right? My buddies prefer to play with my Happy Days ceramics rather than any of my Paulson sets most days, boggles my mind but not all of us can be so lucky to be a chipper. ;)

Matsui=Paulson/TRK——-MSK=China clay in my mind anyway.

You just have to make a choice what you’re after.

And if anybody is interested I’m going to have about 20 matsui 100s and 15 matsui 20s for sale coming up so watch the classifieds.

I've got some Casino Royale plaques from MSK, they're very nice but it's always nagging me at the back of my mind that the lunettes are fake xD . Got more on the way too, when they arrive I'll take some pictures :) .

To each their own. I like the MSK plaques better than the Matsuis. The Matsuis do have sharper images, but I like the bevel on the MSK. That said, I'm not really a plaque guy overall. I'd much rather have chips than plaques for any denom. But I did order 100 plaques from MSK for my Lakeshore Inn set. I like how they turned out. But even if I did think the Matsui looked better than the MSK, I would never buy them. The $25-$30 per price for them is just completely ridiculous IMO, especially when MSK can be had for around $6 ea. It's a no brainer for me.

Are these the newer version (less than 2 yrs old)? Are there pics anywhere?

Same here. I had a bunch of the Matsui PNY group buy plaques, they were nice but I much prefer the custom MSKs I had made. The matsuis felt and looked great as individual plaques, but kind of stuck together like Bud Jones chips.

When ur comparing the msk plaques the newer ones are infinitely better than old. The old were blurry

Got my B&G plaque in and compared them to my MSK ones (they are recent). Personally, I think he biggest difference is in the type of effects they can make. There are some more obvious quality differences; the MSK plaques aren't 100% flat, the sides look slightly more messy (and are slightly thinner), and most notably, the orange text printing, while sharp, is "pixelated".

However, really, all these are seen only upon closer inspection. The biggest difference is that while the MSK only uses a pearlescent effect (a much more aggressive one than the B&G one, too), the SBM plaque uses pearlescence in addition to very fine lace overlay, plus of course those beautiful lunettes with lamé effect. I also like the style of the "air gutters" on the B&G chip better, although that's a matter of personal preference, I guess.

Overall the SBM plaque just looks a lot more majestic IMO, although the MSKs are really not bad by a long shot!

Fantastic post. Thank you for this.

Can anyone order the B&G ones like in your picture? Those are so nice. I’d love to order some.
