I'm trying to close a deal for some of the singles, so now I'm curious about the history. There seem to be a lot of minty Terribles chips around. I'm guessing two different locations changed ownership, so the chips were sold off? Were they sold off to somebody "we" know and then sold to the public?
Why are so many of the low denomination chips so minty? Like they were never played. Is this a secondary set situation? But I don't feel like I've seen any ads here or on eBay for beat up casino-filthy terribles.

Hello
2 casinos both tcr sales.
Both casinos had primary and secondary sets.
Primary has white inlay.
Secondary has yellow faded one.
Mint and used chips were released.
More experts explanations will follow.

Beat-up chips definitely exist - I've seen many of them. It's just that there were a grip of mint ones available in the sales.

As for dirty chips...well, by this time, many folks who purchased the used chips have had an opportunity to clean them.

If you're a fan of RHC chips, you can do far, far worse than the Terrible's lineup.

In the case of the Terribles Mark Twain, they were only in play a few years, as there is also a set of chips from the original Mark Twain casino, Lagrange, MO. So even the used chips are in pretty good shape.

I have two sets of mint chips from the same casino.

The St Jo Frontier casino was owned by the Gates family I believe. When the dad died, the family sold off the boat - to Terribles.

I'm not sure of the details, but I believe the St Joseph Terribles location was only open a few years before the bank took it back over.

It has since been renamed St Jo Frontier casino.

Hard to find a better summary than this!

Here's a photo of all the Terrible's - St. Joe's and Mark Twain (La Grange) primary and secondary chips. (Note: photo and chips are not mine. I had downloaded this photo from either CT or PCF a while ago. I don't know which member to give credit to for this photos, but I can't take credit for it.) Got my Terribles St. Joes $1's today and I was surprised to see that the green spot on the chip is identical to the green color of the Dunes Baccarat $20 that I'll be using with this set.
Anybody know the name of the color brown on the other spot?

I do but unfortunately I do not have a $20 Baccarat chip to compare it with. I can snap a picture of some like colors if that helps.

David
I think he wants to know the color of the brown spot in the Terribles SJP $1, not the Dunes. He was just making mention that the green spot in the same $1 matched the Dunes $20.

There are new chips out there of all 24 denoms with the exception of the STJ primary 25 (near mint) and the MT primary 1. I've never seen any of those in good shape and I've been looking since 2014. I've had a shit ton of Terrible's pass through my hands and really like them for RHC chips.

4 or 5 of the chips are exceedingly hard to find. They are out there but the owners are very hesitant to part with those goodies. I know as I've offered a bunch in the past before finally getting what I need.

Now I'm only searching for 30 STJ secondary hundos and 1 MT secondary 500...anybody?

I could be wrong, but I don't think those two greens are the same color. Close, but no cigar...... paging @ovo

Pretty darn close, but I'd love to hear any expert opinions
Yeah, even looking at your pic they don't look the same to me..... until you hide the adjacent chip and background colors and only compare the actual greens with no distractions. Then they match. (y)

Just goes to show you what the eyes/brain will do with colors using outside influences.

I have 20 of the hundos @ $4 ea and 40 $25 @ $3 ea. Lmk

So was there ever any explanation as to why so many mint chips existed? Was the casino using some of their primary $1's, while holding back racks and racks of primary $1's, unused?

And maybe this is commonplace?
My only experience with hisbisbthe horsehoe Cleveland sale, where ALL the primary chips were well used. But I guess with the horseshoe Cincinnati, there were a bunch of mint $5's. So maybe it's normal for casinos to hold some chips out of circulation?

Not sure about "why" this is for Terribles, or for any other random, specific casino, but I know a number of casinos will have uncirculated racks of $1's - and maybe others - available in the cage, and will have a further supply in reserve that can't be touched/moved into the cage or general supply without proper notification to the state gaming commission. The rules vary state to state. I know I went to Golden Nugget two weekends ago and asked for two racks of uncirculated $1's. The cashier went to the supervisor in the cage who pulled out two Paulson boxes of them, ready to go (he thought they were all out until I offered a $20 tip per rack, after which they magically appeared). There was also a reasonable amount of uncirculated $1's in the Riverside (Washington) casino buy, but no other denoms had any uncirculated availability.

Great deal for you!
