Interest in a new racking system? (2 Viewers)

Would everyone prefer the 50 chip holder? Also the cutouts to see the chips I thought was important to make sure your handing out the right stacks and discourage players from putting trash in the tube. But is protecting the chips with fully enclosed more important to most of you? Also not sure how many people want a logo on the cap or leave it blank. Thanks for the free market research in advance . Now that I'm dipping my toes into making these at scales these questions become more important. Also I'm considering a Kickstarter, if I do one I'll give you guys on the forum a promo code or something for all the help.

50 chips for sure for me. I’m planning on using these for protecting the chips, so extra embellishments aren’t a draw for me.

Alright I know its been a minute but looks like I am going to be going the Kickstarter route to get this rack system and these tubes made. Apparently they need me to send them a video before they will greenlight my campaign. I am going to try to get a promo code or something out to you guys on this forum to lower the price a little once I am able to go live. It'll be 30$ for 8 of the smaller tubes with window or without same price. Then it'll be 50$ for 8 of the 50 chip larger tubes, with or out without windows. If you want 8 tubes and the little rack and the center canister I use for a bank and to hold decks dice, dealer, BB, and LB chips 65$. Thoughts? Opinions? favorite color combinations? I have no idea how to set up Kickstarter so you can pick what colors I send but I am going to figure it out. I may have to just offer a few different combos.

Losing points for taking photos with dice chips and posting on PCF.

Haha Shots fired. Damn. I wish I had a better flex than my Monte Carlo chips. Here is a pic with some better chips so I don't offend the eyes of too many of you. I will also sell a kit on Kickstarter that includes dice chips which is why I used them in those pictures above.

Personally I REALLY like what your doing here. I think the price point is pretty good for what you would be getting if the product is of good quality. Take your time and make sure you are 100% happy with the quality of your product (ie. the threads) as you will have one shot at making a good impression here. I like the two different size offerings as well. I used to have starting stacks around 43-45 chips but my tournaments have grown so much that now my starting stacks are around 32 chips. The smaller ones would work better for me now, but that wouldn't have always been the case.

At some point I would very likely be interested in 4 sets of 8 with carrier to match my seating cards.

The plastic tube link and advice was great and I did order some. I also went down the manufacturing rabbit hole and had these made. They are aluminum, and have threaded lids 100% idiot and caveman proof. The longer hold 50chips up to 40mm. The smaller hold 34ish. They are laser cut and laser logo. The //// design lets you see at least a little of each or the the chips. the suit cutout is prettier but not as practical. The little stand is pretty but they fit in my aluminum suitcase with no modification . Let me know what you think.

Verrry Nice, I wonder if these could be turned from wood?

I am sure it's possible. The threads would likely be tricky though. If I was making them I would worry about different environments (arid vs humid) affecting that. Aluminum works for me.

Can the see thru slot be one long vertical cut? You would be able to see the breakdown of the chips better.
One long vertical slot allows the chips to fall out if they themselves go vertical. Also if pressure is applied to the edge of one side of the long open it could cave in easier. I also toyed with a long "s" slot but the cave in was worrisome.

3 for short. 4 for long is super reasonable. You should sell piles. Id be in for 20 or so for sure.

Love this idea and very interested!

A couple of points (just my take) and a couple of questions:
  • Don't think I'd want/need punch outs
  • Screw tops would be a must :)
  • Custom logo on the screw top lid going to be an option? Interested even if the logo is only one color (white, I'm guessing, like your photos above).
  • These tubes would probably be multi-purpose for me (meaning, used for different tournaments), so I'd love the option to purchase logo screw tops and extra plain (no logo) screw tops - the custom logo would only be used for one specific tournament and the plain ones would be used for all of my other tournaments.
  • You mentioned sets of 8, but I generally have 10 players per table. Will you offer sets/groups of 10?
  • I'm sure you are not interested in getting too specific, but I'd love a Small (30 or so chips), Medium (40 or so chips), and Large (50 or so chips). Again, I'm being a bit selfish/particular here as the tournaments I run have starting chips stacks of 30 or 40-41 chips - so I'd love 40-ish count tubes... :)
But again, love this idea!

Ditto on 10 tops.
A few different top options is a cool idea.

I want punchouts...

How about a punchout on the top too so instead of needing multiple tops you can just use the top chip as guidance of contents.

Thanks so much for the input so far! I thought Id show off an early prototype that I am not pursuing. Showing this to explain why the decision of 8 and not 10, it had to be balanced and I could fit this set in an 8x8in box (also I play my tournaments with 8 tops). While I enjoy the cutouts in these more than the new //// design the problem was possible chip damage (got dice chips in there so who cares) and while not deadly sharp I was trying to make the new version Idiot proof to injury. I abandoned this design because they won't fit in most standard chip aluminum briefcases. The process was to cut extruded tube then turn the threads and lip and then weld on a bottom to seal. Much more intensive process and could led to possible weld slag in the bottom that would chew up chips. New drawing process guarantees a smoother surface and no welds.

With your input I am now seeing that most of you probably wont utilize the rack system so I will include a ten top set for sale. I like the idea of the hole in the cap. I also like the idea of custom cap options. I am thinking I will try to get these off the ground with the caps with the logo, and then offer custom caps and caps with cutouts as add-ons. Also I wouldn't mind making a medium size that holds 40 chips in the future. However again I have to pick a few runs at first and that option will come later. Promise I'm not trying to upsell anyone just need to get a few concrete options to make at scale then can start getting fancy with it. With that said I will probably be starting my kickstarter for them in the next week or two (unless I find some huge presale numbers elsewhere). Ill sell 10 and 8 packs of the small (34) and large (50) tubes ill offer the colors red, black, green and blue (try to match huskerchippers, seating cards :) Ill make it so you can buy all of one color in 10 or 8; or buy an 8 pack with two of each color ; or buy a 10 pack and Ill include 2 of each BRGB and 2 silver. Ill offer them with or without punchouts. I don't think many folks on PCF will be too interested but ill also offer a 400 or 500 dice chip set in the aluminum case that includes 8 tubes. Also will have sets that include my little rack system, but in all honesty someone mentioned turning these tubes out of wood, with those skills you could make a prettier wooden rack system fairly easily. I am going to try to keep my pricing around 3$ short and 4$ larger but I would need to scale pretty massive orders to make that happen if I go 4$ and 5$ I could make the funding goal lower because I wouldn't need to be ordering 10k of each large and small tubes. Thanks again everyone and keep the comments and input coming.

I'm really excited to hear this!!! I think everything you said was quite understandable and won't damper anyone's hopes. Your plan makes alot of sense.

I like the rack system from what i can see., I play with a max 8 at tables as well so it suits me well to put out at each table before drawing for seats. I wouldn't mind a better picture of it without tubes. Lastly, how much is each rack system?

Looks like a badass weapon magazine after the apocalypse, shoots scavenged dice chips

rack on side.jpg
empty short rack hardware.jpg

Little better picture of the rack system. It will be all metal (minus the synthetic rope) the bottom platform in these pictures are currently 3D printed. The rods and hardware are iron WILL NOT BEND. The plates it will be a total of three will be aluminum. The tops in these pictures are aluminum. The canister you see in the center hole is aluminum with a plastic top, it can hold 2 decks one bonus small tube dealer BB,SB and dice when you take those things out the little slot on top allows to put your money in and acts as a bank. It'll cost +22$ if included with a set of tubes probably 25$ solo (with the bank canister included). The empty one is the small tube holder.

If you dont want middle big holder can you for 3 more chip tubes on the inside?
I tried to do it and I can only get two to fit in the middle. But I think I do a run with a design with the rack holder holding 10 tubes and no large center canister. You may be thinking if I increase the diameter just a bit I could easily fit three or four more in the center. However at the moment the design must fit the 8inch circle, because getting 1/8 x 8inch round blanks aluminum is a standard size.

10 is great!!

I do the same kind of thing with my Tournament starting chip stacks (using Walgreen pill bottles): https://www.pokerchipforum.com/threads/show-us-your-live-stacks.3808/post-2596916

Affix a custom label on the lid and on the bottom of the pill bottle is a colored sticker (table) with a number (seat position) on it. Grab a starting chip stack tube and go to your table/seat position. Easy peasy...

But these aluminum tubes are much classier...;)

I think I'll add little slits in the space between the outer 8 and inner two that can fit BB LB and dealer chip.

my potential Kickstarter video. Well I am still on the fence if I am going to launch this as a Kickstarter or just try to sell on the smaller more niche market places but if you got 3 and half minutes here is the Kickstarter promo I made. Just to get ahead of it the chips I am using in the video are the ones I will sell as add-ons to regular folks who want a whole set. So trigger warning I guess this video does contain dice chips and suit chips. Here is the pre-launch link.

I really admire the work you have put in and I think you have a really good product to sell HERE. I don't know what your overall aspirations are big picture, but i share the sentiment that WedgeRock mentioned in that I don't see you selling a large amount of these outside of PCF. Maybe I am wrong but 99%of people outside of this forum use dice chips which are likely cheaper than these tubes so I don't see them paying more for starting stack tubes than the chips themselves. I hope I am not being a downer but I wanna keep it real at the same time. Sincerely hope you can get these into production as I will be one of your first customers!
On a side note, I really like the option for 2 more tubes in the middle vs the container. For me, they would be great to have rebuys ready for each of my tables of 8. Best wishes.
