Safe to store 39mm Paulson in 43mm acrylic trays? (1 Viewer)

For context I have some chip sample sets (Tiger Palace) that are a mix of 39 and 43mm. Do I need separate acrylic racks for the different sizes or can I safely keep the 39mm chips in the 43mm racks without warping? I picked these up and they seem to fit fine for the 43mm chips but there is definitely some open space on the 39mm chips.

Or maybe I should just store them in tubes together upright instead of on their sides?

39mm in a 43mm rack is OK, but I wouldn't stack another rack on top of a mixed rack. What little weight is actually carried by the chips underneath will only be carried by the larger chips in he lower rack. If the upper rack isn't well centered on the lower rack, that will cause uneven distribution.


How many 43mm chips? I have a set that only has one barrel of 43mm chips and I just keep those in a tube that I cut down to a barrel length and keep them there. Easy access when I need them for the latter levels of a tournament, but also safe storage.

If in Justin/Matsui racks, I don't think you'll have a problem with 39mm chips in 43mm racks. @TheLemursReturn also sells an adapter so that the 39mm chips fit snug in Justin 43mm racks.

That makes a lot of sense! About 20 43mm and 20 39mm. If acrylic tube storage with the chips stacked horizontally on top (like on a poker table) is ok that might be easiest so I can also keep the sample sets separate.

Sounds good appreciate the pro tips. I PMed Justin a few days ago hopefully I can get some of those soon and will check out the adapter.

I have wondered about this also....36mm in 39mm Justin racks? I have the lover rack with top/bottom and the upper layer with just the lower tray in my drawers. Will my chips warp this way?

The lower rack is covered?? If so, there's zero weight on the chips from the upper rack.

Unless you park the chips next to a furnace, it's almost impossible a chip will warp with zero load on it.




So many people here fear the F out of warped chips. I can't find it off hand, but I want to point at the photo of the Rio WSOP cage with tournament chips stacked 20 racks tall and as we're learning, those chips turned out just fine after spending the many months between WSOPs stored that way.

I'm approaching 20 years in this hobby. My ASM and CPC chips have been kept in normal racks, stacked five tall in acrylic cages and I have yet to see a warped chip. They're inside, in a climate controlled environment and in the desert.

I wouldn't do that unless you don't plan on stacking the racks of chips. The pressure that the rack above the chips will cause the chips to slide and will cause potentially catastrophic tipping accidents if you try to pick up more than a rack at a time.

Matsui/Justin racks with lids are ideal if you're trying to store a chip set with both 39mm and 43mm diameters.

This is the photo that I was referencing. Clearly, they had zero issues with chips stacked in racks 13 high in this case (I counted), and had no warping problems if you see the WSOP tournament sets a few folks here are lucky to have.


No mis-matched sizes here, but whenever I see anyone here freak out about storing chips in normal racks and worry about warping as a result, this is the photo I think of as it's not the issue people think it is.

For me, I don’t worry about the warping, but I’m concerned about damage to the chips under the weight. There have been a couple documented instances here on PCF of clays getting marked from open racks…however, the vast majority of folks have not had an issue.
For my piece of mind, my long-term storage for clays is boxes instead of racks. I know the chance of a problem is very slim, but it’s an easy fix to be 100% safe.
