How much resistance has one faced when harvesting? I'll be in Vegas in a couple of weeks hoping to grab me a rack or two of Paris and Flamingo 1's. My plan is to sit at a table game and ask for singles to either play bonus or tip the wait staff. I know this is probably the slowest method but would get less raised eyebrows.

Thoughts, advice.

Raise eyebrows. If you get asked about it say sorry. Then leave for two hours and come back, different people!!

Harvesting chips can be perilous...
1 Always have escape plan
2 Never let them see you bleed

Many have tried but only handful succeeded

They could, if so inclined. They could also prosecute for theft of casino property.
If you took their racks, absolutely. If you turned around and sold the chips, probably. But just for walking out with them? I think they’d have to prove you had an intent to permanently deprive the casino of then.
But yeah, it’s possible.

I had a blast harvesting on my trip last month (check my post). I fell in love with the Caesar's Palace blue hotstamped $1's and the standard $5's, and I learned how to play craps to get the Ellis Island $1's.

I agree with above, if there's a poker room it's simple, if not it depends. The Ellis Island $5 craps game made that very easy. I just bet $5 or $6 on 5/6/8/9 and kept getting handed $1 chips all night lol. Of course they took a lot of my $5 chips along the way but it was still fun.

I never tried to make change with a cocktail server but that might work for small numbers. And I was trying to be sneaky with the craps game because I did feel like they were paying pretty close attention to everything, though I don't know if they'd care much.

The weirdest thing for me was stacking the Caesar's $1's and sorting for the hot stamps while playing. Some dealers would automatically ask if I wanted to color up the $1's when I had a bunch and I just said "no thanks, they're too pretty to give back." No real pressure but you'll get a few weird comments or looks from a few people I suppose. One dealer when starting a new game just automatically gave everyone a barrel of $1's to go with their buy in, so YMMV.

Oh and I had a friendly cage cashier let me buy a barrel of sorted $1's which was very nice. She wouldn't do it the next day though.

Last summer in Lisbon, Portugal, the casino next to Expo 98 site.
There was two 5 euro blackjack, I noticed those pretty 50 cents jetons. They did not have snappers, they had 2 euro chips and 0.50 jetons.
I kept playing 5 euro, 2 or 3 hands each time. Surrender was offered, plus I had several blackjacks paying 7.50 euro. I pocketed 0.50 and kept 2 euros in play.
After an hour, the dealer and the supervisor realized that barely half of 0.50 were gone (they had about 40 in the float, less than 20 remained). They asked to me "where are all the 0.50? are you keeping them?" I ended that hand and simply went to another table :wtf:
The following evening I repeated at the same table, there was another crew on duty, and stopped after another hour... this time I went un-noticed.

I totally harvested more than 2 barrels: this is definitively the coolest frac I ever saw in Europe (second one it's 0.50 euro from Venice, basically impossible to harvest: simply have 2 singles was difficult to me )

Anyone ever picked up some chips from tribal casinos? I'd love to get a rack of $1s from Chinook Winds, and maybe a barrel of 5s, but I imagine they might be watchful as a smaller casino. They run poker rooms only twice a year for about 2 weeks each for some tournament series (cash games run then too).

Best approach? Ask the cage? Keep slipping $1s into my pocket?

If no poker room, then just pocketing chips from table games is the way to go.
