Holy Grail (1 Viewer)

This is amusing on so many levels that it’s the 6-panel cartoon equivalent of the movie Inception. Just incredible work there.

Instead of posting 10 times before being granted access to PCF classifieds, new members should have to submit a 1000 word essay explaining the cartoon and how it relates to them and the forum community.

Outstanding.

Wow, I haven’t seen racks of ones. Are those real? Based on their edges, I’m guessing you made them?

The one in the air-tite is real, the others are photoshopped. The real T1s are super rare. I'm waiting to mill and gear label them. But they will look like that when I finish them.

I suppose a grail set is a place of momentary happiness and contentment. Maybe like mountain climbing, there may be higher or more difficult mountains to climb but while on a summit you feel euphoric. Not all assembled or purchased sets make you feel this way, but some do.

my holy grail set ..... still picking a few up here and there but this is mostly done (grabbing more 1's for a small limit set).

Yes I have both 25c and 50c chips because I had to :)

Missing from the pic are 25 Gold coast, Barbary Coast, and Orleans butterscotch $1's that I am relabeling into Show 'Em chips (not ready yet)

what chips are the future grail set in 20years? I mean, should I (say) be hoarding the 1st issue Aria $5 chips for when they are out of circulation?

The modern chips aren’t leaded.
For many people that’s a non-issue.
But my expectation of ‘The Holy Grail’ set is that the chips be leaded.
huh, didn't know that. when did the leading stop? 90s? (like leaded gas lol)

Generally agree, but....

If I ever get the opportunity to design from scratch a custom 43mm IHC set from Paulson, it will be the holiest of all grail sets, leaded or not.

At least to me. :D

I suppose my “grail” set is and likely always will be the Casablancas. I for one love leaded chips that saw actual casino play.
That said, when I got the opportunity to land some Binions chips for myself and a fellow chipper I jumped all over it. Once again, leaded casino chips.
It just so happens that I mostly play small 1 table tournaments with my group. That makes both sets perfect for me.
I can run T5 based with the Binions.
I can run T5 or T25 or T100 based with the Casa’s.

I also occasionally play small stakes cash games ($20-$50 buy ins). Like @ReallyGoodUsername I don’t mind value/100 at all.
Binions play as nickle-quarter-ones fir micro stakes or we break out the Casa’s for .25/.50

To repeat the sentiment of others: YMMV

I like what I like and that works for me. There is one other set on my “hit list” but unfortunately it is never going to be in my possession. Another chipper on here has the only playable set and will never sell.

Grail sets are in the eye of the beholder. One person's grail set is another's back up set.

Somebody better say Big Top Poker. Those things are georgous

Prime example right here, I don’t care for the BTP chips, but others idolize them on pedestals. ;)

we are all different, and our tastes differ. Prime example is CPC chips.. all these amazing sets people design. That perfectly match their individual tastes, and they’re all different to some extent.

I actually know this. Paulson started phasing out leaded chips in 1988 except for what some people call DayGlo, or neon chips. Those started getting the lead out in 1995, and they signed an agreement to limit their lead content to 0.005% by January 1, 2008.

^This is not accurate.

Replacing Paulson's leaded clay formulas began in late 1998, and took several years to convert all colors. Most were completed within a couple of years, but the last five colors (and not dayglo/neon colors, either) were not fully replaced until 2006.
