What’s up everyone, looking for some advice on how to structure my upcoming tournament. I have a general idea of what I want to do.

Details:

Total chip count (800)
- $25 (250)
- $100 (225)
- $500 (125)
- $1k (150)
- $5k (50)

I have a total of 8 players. Were doing $60 Entry and $60 Rebuy/Add-On. Looking for the game to last at least 3 hours but no more than 4-4.5. Most of the guys aren’t great players and generally play more loose.

Originally I was going to do this chip breakdown..

  • 16x $25 chips
  • 11x $100 chips
  • 3x $500 chips
  • 7x $1000 chips
  • 1x $5000 chip
Now I’m thinking I should probably save the 5k chips for later in the game for color up. Is 10k starting enough or should I add. Any suggestions are welcome.

Final thing is the blinds, here’s what I came up with so far.

Increase every 20 minutes
  1. 25/50
  2. 50/100
  3. 100/200
  4. 200/400 (Add ons begin)
  5. 300/600 (Rebuys end)
  6. 500/1000 (Add ons end)
  7. 1k/2k
  8. 2k/4k
  9. 4k/8k
  10. 7.5k/15k
  11. 10k/20k
  12. 20k/40k
I’m fairly new to this so I’m open to suggestions. Thank you for any help you can offer.

when will the rebuys be cut off?
how many rebuys can each player have?
10,000 in chips should be more than enough for the game set up you have.....if you expect many rebuys or are hoping to boost the overall prize pot then issuing 5k in chips with rebuy options and an add-on at some point (usually a rebuy cut off/break) may be desirable

Your structure seems crazy with blinds doubling almost each level. Let me recommend a smoother one.

8 players, 400 chips is more than enough.

Breakdown :
T25 x 100
T100 x 100
T500 x 60
T1000 x 80
T5000 x 20

Structure :
25-50
25-75
50-100
75-150
100-200
150-300
## color-up T25 with T1000

600-1200
800-1600
## color-up T100 with T1000

1500-3000
## color-up T500 with T5000
2000-4000
3000-6000
4000-8000
6000-12000
8000-16000

I'd go with 20 min. levels.
If if you want 4.5 hours of play max, it means play until level 13 which is 1500-3000.
This will be the end level if 3000 (the BB) represents 5% of the total chips in play (incl. rebuy and addon).
3000 / 0.05 = 60000, so basically 7,500 chips per player.
If you expect half of the player to rebuy or addon, it means 5000 starting stacks : 12/12/7.
Rebuy or addon with 5 x 1000.
75-150 would be the last level where it's possible to rebuy (to still have the ratio stack / (SB + BB) > 20).

Don't hesitate to buy a few spares in case of loss, ...

I was thinking ending rebuys approximately halfway through, around 1:40 or 2 hours in. Only one rebuy per player. I’m only expecting about half of the guys to rebuy/add but could be more.

I figured increasing the blinds a little faster would speed up the game with each player getting 10k chips. Plus about half of the guys rebuying/adding. 5k starting stacks just felt like a small amount.

5000 chips on 25-50 is still 100BB starting stacks.

I think it's better to have a smaller starting stack but very smooth blind progression vs. bigger starting stack and very agressive blind progression.

I plugged it into a tournament calculator and it came up with this.
8 players, starting stacks 10,000
Expected rebuys - 5 - 10k each
Expected add on - 8 - 10k each
That is a total of 210,000 in chip value on the table
15 minute blind levels
25/50
50/100
75/150
100/200
125/250
150/300 - 1:30 in color up the 25's and do add on's
200/400
300/600
400/800
600/1200
1000/2000
1500/3000 - 3 hours (color up 100's & even 500's if you want)
2000/4000
3000/6000
4000/8000
5000/10000 - 4 hours (should be over by now with $210k chips in play)
7000/14000
10000/20000 - 4:30 hours

If you want to do blind levels of 20 minutes then
25/50
50/100
75/150
100/200
200/400 - 1:40 in color up the 25's and do add on's

300/600
500/1000
700/1500
1000/2000 - 3 hours (color up 100's and 500's if you want.)
2000/4000
3000/6000
4000/8000 - 4 hours
5000/10000
10000/20000
