Tourney How many chips…??? (1 Viewer)

Hi guys

Just wondering how many of each denomination of chips I would need for a 50 player Rebuy tournament with add-ons… it would be unlimited Rebuys with 20k starting stack/rebuy stack and add on stack.

The denominations used will be 100/500/1k/5k/25k/maybe 100k

There will be a colour up of the 100 and 500’s at one point and then another colour up of the 1k’s at another point leaving 5k/25k and 100k’s left in play at the end.

I considered two different starting stacks:-

10 x 100
6 x 500
6 x 1k
2 x 5k

Or

5 x 100
3 x 500
3 x 1k
3 x 5k

What are your thoughts?

10/6/6/2 is the only one of the two that will definitely work. You can even get by on 10/4/7/2 if you are looking for the minimum number of necessary chips. If you allow one rebuy and add-on per player, you would need 8 extra T5K per player.

For 10/4/7/2 with 0/0/0/8 extra, you will need:
500x T100
200x T500
350x T1000
500x T5000 (400 of which are rebuy/add-ons)
20x T25,000 for T100-1K color ups.
Total: 1,570

It would probably make sense to limit each player to either a single rebuy OR add-on if you’re running anything other than a charity tournament with shallow stacks and cheap rebuys, as it would allow you to shave 200 T5Ks off the list. If you do go for 500x T5K, you should probably add more T25Ks to color some of them up (maybe 50 total instead of 20).

Agree with almost everything here but I think you'll need more 25K's and 100K's for sure.

I like the 10/4/7/2 start stack since T500's are the least used/needed chip in bulk.

I would also make the add on 25k instead of 20k for several reasons.
1. Less 5K's needed
2. Entice people to add on to grow the prize pool.
3. much easier/faster for the tournament director to just hand out 50 - 25K chips instead of 200 - 5K chips assuming all 50 are adding on.
4. Less change making along the way

The amount will depend on how many rebuys you think you will have. If its a $10-$20 crazy rebuy tournament then you can have well over 100 rebuys. If its a bigger buy in where people won't play as reckless then you won't need as many.

For 10/4/7/2
500x T100
200x T500
350x T1000

Thanks for the replies… blind structure will include bb ante’s (100/100 (100), 100/200 (200), 100/300 (300), 200/400 (400) and so on)

So probably going to go with the starting stack of:-

10 x 100
6 x 500
6 x 1k
2 x 5k

It’s will probably only be small stakes 10 or 20 Rebuy tournament with add on, Rebuy period will only be for the first 5-6 blind levels ending at around the 300/600 (600) or 400/800 (800) mark.

So I was thinking for set something along the lines of…

500 x T100
300 x T500
400 x T1000
500 x T5000
100 x T25000
25 x T100000

Would that work in respect of the colouring up etc… do you think… tournaments like this in these parts roughly work out to an average of 1 Rebuy and add on per player, so expected is 50 Rebuys and 50 add ons approx.

I don’t think you have enough chips to do big blind antes. You’ll spend sooooooooo much time making change.
When the BB is 300 they will need 6 - 100’s when the BB is 400 they will need 8 - 100’s.

Just increase the blinds. It’s the same difference.

Can I ask whether additional 1k chips would be required for when colouring up the 100’s and 500’s? I see on your list you have just enough for starting stacks but none to colour up. Thanks

Use 5000's, even 25000's to colour up the 100's and 500's

You can either:

Have players make chip-ups to 5000 ie 3x100 2x500 and 3x1000 get 1x5000

and or

Take 5x1000 from a player and give them 1x5000, then chip up with the 1000's

It is easier than it sounds
