I just found this forum searching for a chip set and I’m enjoying looking through. It looks like I need to post a few times before I can respond to classifieds. Anyway glad to be hear. I have been looking at getting either a set of Paulson THC casino chips from Roadhouse or Horseshoe Cincinnati or the Paulson CDIs. Any thoughts on which set to get? I like the looks of all three sets.

Thanks for your thoughts

Hi! Welcome aboard :) your limitations will be lifted soon!
Those are all great chip sets, although I will say that the Roadhouse and Cincinnati chips are fairly more affordable than CDI's but still all 3 are nice sets. Theres 2 different year sets on the CDI (2005 and 1998) not sure if you already know this or not, but just a consideration when you begin your search!! Wishing you good luck and hope you find a set you're happy with!!! If you cannot decide on one set you may consider a mixed set with denoms from all 3 sets.....again just a thought!!

Welcome friend!!! Just fyi Roadhouse and horseshoe cinicys are RHC not THC, far from and expert but I do know that the difference is there is a ring around the outside of the hats on THC which makes the edges stronger and less likely to chip/ get flea bites... On the RHC it is a lot easier at the weak point of the chip to break off... Right at the top of the top hat! I own a couple thousand RHC and actually prefer their feel over THC but THC are more suaght after and there for obviously cost more... CDI'S... Well those sir are my favorite chips, still building a set of both 98's (140 chips, $3-$4 per chip) and further along with my 05's (600 chips $2.50-$3 per chip) the older ones are THC the newer are the bright ones on the PAULSON home mold, again not as strong easier to chip but the colors are amazing!! Good luck on your journey... Hide your PayPal password and if you need any help just ask, we are all friends here!! Fellow chipper Ben!!

Ben,

Thanks for the info. I had no clue about the differences. I have a couple of other stupid questions. I have PayPal but have hardly ever used and just used recently to get money from a friend. My question is what do you mean hide your password? Is it somehow public?

Also, I would imagine you guys are are playing with your good chips and not just having them sit there or do you primarily collect good chips and then play with chip sets that are not as valuable.

Thanks, Aaron

Welcome!

I was just about to post about the difference between THC and RHC.

Here's a helpful glossary for reference: https://www.pokerchipforum.com/resources/pcf-glossary.5/

Thanks for the info.

Haha no he meant hide your paypal password to save your account from spending lots of money on chips!! Most use paypal without a problem some use venmo. Paypal has F&F which is friends and family which most use here and have no problem but they have a second way to pay that charges a fee for insurance and protection if you want or feel the seller is not trustworthy. We have multiple sets but we plan to use our royal flush chips which are (BCC) blue chip company and paulson mixed for cash set or I have a PCA primary set for cash as well. We built some non paulson sets for tournament and cash but will probably use one of our paulson sets for tournament as well... we have become very spoiled with our paulsons!!

I believe this was tongue-in-cheek, because it’s easy to overspend in this hobby. Let your wife set your password and you’ll save your money and your marriage! :D

I would say a vast majority of us buy chips to put them into play, but there definitely are some collectible sets that don’t see the felt.

I understand collecting but if I buy chips I have every intention of putting them in play! Now with a large group of people I don't know would I play with chips that cost $3 a piece... Nope, we have casino Royale ABs plastic metal slug chips and a set of 14.5g metal slug Monte carlos, but any set that I have at some point will be in play just usually with smaller 10 - 20 gatherings... And yes sorry it was a running joke we all say on here about hiding your password... PayPal is extremely secure... Just some of us are a little loose with our spending habits! As you see any questions you have start a thread, or send a PM there are many extremely friendly people here that will be able and willing to help you! Chipping buddy Ben!!

LOL. Makes sense now. I never let my wife know what I’m buying anyway. That would get me in trouble.

Wow! I wish I had that kind of courage. The audacity..to deal with wifey in this fashion...

It wouldn't end well. Lucky for you if you can get away with this.

How does one hide chip shipments from a stay at home mom?

Also, I would imagine you guys are are playing with your good chips and not just having them sit there or do you primarily collect good chips and then play with chip sets that are not as valuable.

I'm a total degenerate noob. Lost control of my PayPal as @Ben8257 points out. It's true with me. I need to have someone de-activate my PayPal and cancel my credit cards. I'm joking.. but not really. This hobby is sick!

I have got a set I am building that will 100% never even see the felt. It will be cased and displayed in a cabinet in my poker room for show. Like it was a mural or an art painting. It's so stupid. I don't even know why I want to do it. I just do.

For a reference, I had 700 plastic chips in March of this year. I now have 750 CPCs and around 1700 Paulson's.

I also stated in my first few posts that "I can't afford Paulsons". Hahahahahaha

What a joke...I'm totally screwed! :ROFLMAO:

Yall need a wifey that helps you buy chips, I've been trying to convince @Ben8257 to let me buy some CDI $1 for him.... :ROFLMAO::ROFL: :ROFLMAO:
@arch3r was lucky enough to find a lovely lady that partakes as well, happily getting married to her!!!

Lol @Jeevansluck we all feel for you buddy.... :p:p I'm hoping you survive this epidemic and make it out alive!

I have a couple sets that I bought more for eye candy but there are plenty of forum members who have high end sets and put them in play pretty often. If the three sets you posted I think the Horseshoe and Roadhouse are much better value sets and you won't feel bad about putting them in play because they are reasonably affordable. I had a Roadhouse cash set that I really enjoyed playing and sold to build a custom CPC set. If I had to pick one I'd say go Roadhouse! I also really enjoy ceramic chips, personally. They are cool colors, print to edge, cost efficient, hard to wear, easy to clean.... List goes on haha. I put a picture of my current favorite ceramics. Dia De Los Muertos with some sweet plaques and a dealer button. Welcome to the forum and enjoy losing your lifes savings :)

Those are some neat chips.

Thanks to all for the warm welcome.

To summarize what I have learned most here in my very short time is that this is an addictive costly hobby. Sounds like fun.
I am very impressed on the amount of activity on here though.
