Hey Everyone!

My name is Sam and I am from just north of Baltimore in the Perry Hall area. I am 26 but have been playing poker for longer than I can remember at this point. I just moved into my first house with my fiance and am in the process of building my own poker setup. While par-oozing through poker Reddit I came across a set of chips that I salivated over and found a link to Poker Chip Forum. I can now say after 3 full days non stop on the site I am hooked and can't wait to start building my cash game set. Anyone local to Baltimore that has some pointers on buying my first cash game set I am all ears and will take any and all advice. At first I was planning on a set of Milanos or Majestics but i have the budget to possibly expand and chase something a little more select now after seeing what this site has too offer. I am planning on a cash game set as I am trying to set up either a biweekly or monthly 1 table cash game with friends. Right now the limits I am planning to host will be .25/.25 or .25/50 at this point but possibly grow on that if the crowd at the tome was comfortable. One thing I have never had my whole 16 year career of card playing was a set of chips that I was proud of. With this community and the images I have built in my head so far, I think I can make that happen :)

I also plan on trying to play some home games local to Baltimore as I am trying to find some consistent games. Ever since my college days or even a few years ago (still with friends in college) I have only been playing casino games and that is very rare if so. I would much rather meet a bunch of liked minded poker and poker chip enthusiasts and play a fun home game any day of the week! I would love to play limits from 1/1 and down so if you know of any games please let me know as I would love to meet many more in the community to learn about the chip community!

Anyway, that enough book writing for me! Looking forward to meeting you all!

-Sam

Welcome! Love the name, and sweet first post! Crazy how addicting this site is. I have a small cash game set 25¢/25¢ all RHC Paulsons all under a $1 per chip. 65¢ range for some. If you have a little more money you can even find nicer stuff around $1.25 / chip. DONT RUSH! Hang out and be patient until you have a good grasp of what there is to offer, and of course get samples!

Welcome! YAY another marylander! I'm in finksburg MD not far from bmore. Sounds like you're on the right path so far! If you're going China clay (CC) route get samples lol you'll hear that alot! If you're going to skip that and head straight for paulsons, do lots of browsing. Theres tons of great sets out there! Used paulsons are typically very smooth and the edges are pretty rounded but they're great for cash games and or players who arent exactly chip savvy. Minty paulsons or ones in great condition tend to have sharper edges, they're super nice but can sometimes be costly depending on the set and what you're looking for. Theres also casino paulsons and house mold paulsons, a quick search in the browser will show you the difference. Theres also THC and RHC paulsons, again a quick search will give you some examples of these. There is a ton of options out there so take your time do some research and always feel free to reach out to the community for input or suggestions!!!

Theres a few local meet ups in the area I'm sure a few members will reach out at some point or you can reach out to them. Local mini meet ups are great and a ton of fun! @Ben8257 and I were able to join one just a few months after joining PCF, and we had a great time!!!!

Please make a post with any questions or reach out through a PM, myself and others will be happy to help or just chat!!

Cheers, Brie

@MegaTon44 new local guy! Welcome friend, if you haven't had a chance check out a lot of different brands and types of chips a meet up is the best way to do that with out spending a ton of money! Some of these guys have serious collections of chips spreading several decades of time. @FordPickup92 and myself did have the privilege to attend one of these local meet ups and had an absolute blast!! If you have the ability to skip the China Clay ago go for real chips it will probably save you a lot of money!! When we get a regular game going which we hope to soon if at all interest I can let you know, and we own most different types of chips from ABS cheap plastic, China Clay, several Different ceramics, Matsui and Bud Jones(both plastic but very nice), coin inlays, BCC, Paulson and even TRKs. So many amazing friendly members here that can help you along the way, all you have to do is ask!! Welcome and if you need anything you're welcome to send me a message anytime!! Fellow chipper Ben

Thanks everyone! I definitely will be asking for advice but have already have some ideas in mind!

@Ben8257 definitely keep me posted about get togethers and regular games! Would love to put some names to faces and get to know more. I have already looked through so many forums, and found the thread about the June east coast meet up! That looked incredible and the games looked like a blast. Would love to be involved in the future just let me know how!

Welcome to PCF!!

Elkton, MD here.

Good luck with your search! It’s addicting. Lock your wallet up to prevent impulse buys. Lol!

I wonder what all the OPs think of you and me sarcasm bombing their threads all night and day? I can only imagine their thoughts would be like "what, where, and who the hell are these people?"
To be completely honest I have had the exact same thought... hahahaha I was like oops :bag:
And then I remembered I wasnt worried about it and its actually fine lol :p

Will tell you what I'm telling every other new poster....run.

But if you insist on staying, as others have mentioned, this seems to be a good time to buy from the classifieds. A lot of veteran posters here are selling off parts of their collection at good prices.

Look at the pRon threads and get a sense of what you like. Just stay away from Jack Detroit, TRK, and the custom Paulsons from the secret but now not so secret group buys. Your wallet will thank you.
