Fuuuuuuuck yes. I’d get a personalized variation of a traditional chip on ARODIE but I adore that mold and it’s not like it’s available now for casino or custom chips in clay with the cups all fucked up.

I posted this elsewhere as well: It's such a funny ruling - Warhol was found to have violated the copyright because he used the picture for something that would appear in a magazine article and the original photo was taken and licensed for a magazine article - the same purpose. If Warhol had use the picture and printed it on toilet roll, he would have been fine...

Andy typically used celebrity photos taken for tabloids. As he's making art with them for sale in a gallery, the purpose is different so he's fine. If that art was made for publication in a tabloid then he's screwed.

This is just wrong. Yes, because it's directly copying a mold but that's not why I'm so opposed to it.

That existing mold is currently being offered by CPC and effectively diminishing over one of the greatest chippers we have. David and CPC is the only place we can get custom clay chips and if they're gone we'll have nothing...

I don't know if this was just done by Tina or if a chipper directed her to do it, but if it was a chipper they should be ashamed of themselves. It's a real betrayal of the community. There are so many molds out there that are never going to be back like the roman mold or cigar and snifter - why copy one of CPC's current offerings?
 
People can do whatever they want, obv. I just don’t get the allure of all these knockoffs.

Seems kind of like buying a fake Rolex from a street vendor, except that the fake isn’t even convincing. <shrug>

I’ve said before that I don’t understand why people would want these garbage knockoffs. And I get plenty of those “not everybody can afford the real thing” responses. Okay. I still don’t get it, because there are plenty of inexpensive options that aren’t thieving knockoffs, but okay, heard.
But what baffles me is when chippers, real honest to goodness compressed clay owning chippers, people who obviously appreciate the good stuff because they’ve spend buttloads of money on it and so much of their time here discussing it, when those people choose this knockoff garbage, it blows my mind. Just to own another extra set? I don’t understand it.
And not that I understand collecting at all, but at that point, is it even collecting? Don’t most collectors pursue things that are genuine, authentic, and often rare? Commissioning this knockoff garbage just to add to your pile isn’t even collecting; it’s amassing. And I do not understand it.

As far as the scrown mold goes, I never thought it was a good idea for CPC to start cranking them out either, but they didn’t ask me.

Money is a representation of “saved work”.

You did something now, spent your “time” and got something you can trade in later for something you need

Humans can be incredibly efficient when it comes to saving and hoarding.
We save “time” and hoard it in the form of money - incredible amounts of it.
We have hoarded and saved so much over the last few generations that we can afford to squander it on all kinds of stupid nonessential shit. We don’t even respect what it is or what it represents anymore. In most cases it’s vilified even.

Without the work and effort behind it money is nothing. You may as well pick up pebbles and try to buy stuff with them if it’s simply brought into existence without the “work” behind it.

The concept of money doesn’t work unless there is respect behind it. Maybe it’s changing, but for a couple hundred years now there has been tremendous respect for the dollar. And it’s a reflection of the “work” ethic behind it. But I fear our collective “work” ethic is suffering.
Money is being collected and made for the benefit of money, not work ethic. That connection is getting tenuous and without backing and support almost anything fails. When the tie between money and “work” becomes broken you end up like Venezuela or Argentina.
Because when your money is backed up with - nothing? Guess what it’s worth?

Capitalism without ethics is just economic exploitation/slavery. I sincerely hope that you don't mean that the accumulation of wealth justifies any means to do so.

That’s a broader conversation for the politics thread which I left ha.

But when it comes to chips I’ll 100% stand by it.
If someone can sell a $1 Paris chip for $2, they’re going to do it. If they can sell NAGB chips for $8-$10 when they cost $2-$3, they’re going to do it.

Also, I’m just as guilty as anyone else on this forum. If I’m selling something I’m not trying to lose money if at all possible. Sure, does someone hook someone else up every once in a while? Sure. Deals between friends? Absolutely.

None of us are Saints but none of us are bad people either.

My PNY and Vineyard sets because I love the way they look and can’t afford the real thing.

My Aria set because I need a tournament set exactly once a year, no more, no less, and I’m sure as hell not spending 1K+ on it but also don’t want to use super cheesy plastic bicycle chips.

Granted these are all on the Cards mold but I think they could have a place even for a serious collector.

For the tournament set, I get it. That makes sense to me. But the ceramic PNYs and Vineyards? You are one of the few people on earth who have an actual custom Paulson inlaid THC set. I can’t imagine pushing those to the side and choosing to play with cheap ceramics.
