I'm going to be in LV in July... well, Henderson specifically at either Fiesta or Sunset Station.

I'd like to get a set of 1's from one of them (probably around 100-150 of them) and am wondering the best way to go about this.

Not all tables have clay $1 chips. I know they can be found at lower level craps tables so that's where I'll look first. However, my concern is that don't casinos in general frown on this kind of thing? I know they always want to color you up once you get up from any table.

Any tips or links to existing threads on the best ways to go about this?

Better yet: get twice what you want from the cage, sit at an empty table, go through them picking the best ones, then go back to the cage and either get more (rinse, repeat) or cash in the excess. Then leave.

I've never had a problem doing that in any casino which offers poker.

The last time i was at either casino a few years ago the chips were pretty beat up. Sunset station used to have a poker room, but im pretty sure it closed and i dont think fiesta ever had a room.

Green Valley ranch is pretty close to both casinos and has a poker room where you could join a small limit poker game and harvest away pretty easily.

Poker rooms are for sure the easiest way to harvest chips.

What I did was exchange a $25 chip for singles at the roulette table, and ask for $10-15 worth of "tip" singles at un-busy blackjack tables. Worked everywhere I tried in Vegas. Most Cages limited me to 5 chips. I wish I had hit New York New York -- I really like their singles!

For casinos without poker:

At craps, buy in for $100. They will likely give you all red. Ask for a “stack of singles” then walk away to another craps tables. Pocket the singles.

At the next table toss the dealer 4 red chips and ask for a “stack of singles”....

Rinse and repeat.

This works. Simple and straightforward.
"Hi, I'm a collector. I would like to sort through some chips and find a few good ones to keep. Can I buy a few racks and then bring back the ones I don't want"

You might have some trouble if you want quarters, but they will probably let you take a few anyway. Higher denoms they will be glad to give you all you want.

No casino cages in Las Vegas are permitted to sell chips -- they only redeem chips. That said, you might find a bored, helpful, cashier that may be willing to slide a rack of $1 chips to you for a $5 tip. Usually they'll just direct you to the pit. Buying them at a craps table is best. Like previous poster suggested, drop $100 bill, get stack of red, toss 4 chips and ask for a stack of $1 chips. Do your best to casually walk to the next table and repeat. If the casino is slow with few players and only one craps table opened, it'll be much more difficult.

Casino chips are the property of the casino and cannot be removed. Some casinos have placards stating this at the exits. They overlook it 100% of the time -- unless the value of what you're taking exceeds their cost to acquire. So be careful. The chips at Sunset Station are old, dirty, and worn thin. I'd bet you can get 21 in a stack to fit their racks. Fiesta is a bit better -- you may even find some of their older chips mixed in the racks.

If you run into trouble, suggest trying to get racks from a casino with a poker room -- one that spreads limit poker. They hand out racks of $1 chips all the time.

Good luck.

I think the above is the method I'll employ; except given I'm there several days I'll spread it out doing this no more than 2-3 times a day and not all together. Shouldn't be that hard to get a rack or two.

Thx for the pic.

I like the sunset stations a lot better than Fiestas. Less busy.

As previously reported, the poker room is the best/easiest by far!
