Hard Rock Buying Taj! (1 Viewer)

Hard lol at "investing" in Atlantic City. Only thing I can come up with is they can somehow use the massive write offs and tax credits in ways I don't understand and essentially freeroll on the success of this spot.

He's right. Not sure I'd use the sentence "investing in Atlantic City" in this day and age. But...yay!

Revel had a casino license. The casino just didn't bring in the dough. Revel catered more to the party goers than to the gamblers.
I think he is probably referring to the "current owner" that has been trying to re-open the Casino:
http://www.courierpostonline.com/story/news/2017/03/07/atlantic-city-casino-owner-rules/98851304/

"....Within the past two weeks, Straub appealed a ruling by the state Casino Control Commission that he needs a casino license in order to reopen Revel, the $2.4 billion resort that he bought for $82 million from bankruptcy court. ...."

Something Cosmopolitan has had to overcome in Vegas post opening with the exact same philosophy. New management and a full gaming focus is now showing much better results for this casino.

Revel is/was an amazingly beautiful property and even now, has potential if acquired by the "right" operator - based on what I have read and know, I am not convinced that that owner is Straub.

I'm in Atlantic City quite alot as I live relatively close and work in the area. While agree "investing" in Atlantic City seems a little outlandish, some of the things that have been done lately will help big time.

That Hard Rock buying Taj can only be a good thing. It will be big, brilliant and stunning when it opens. Dare I say, has the chance overtake Borgata as the top casino in AC if they do it right.

I'm just hoping they take the poker room and open it back up to its original size like in Rounders (it was shrunk down to half before Taj closed) and make it one of the best poker rooms on the coast.

I actually tweeted at Hard Rock months ago about buying Taj. There's a Press of AC article that quotes my tweet. It was cool to see the deal actually happen

For anyone interested...Hard Rock had their press conference today announcing the plans for Hard Rock Casino/Hotel Atlantic City. Hard Rock CEO, Seminole Tribe members, other investors, NJ Governor (I refuse to even say his name) And even Stevie Van Zandt of the E Street Band in attendance and gave short speeches.

I'll still wait to believe it when I see but it certainly looks like a good step forward. Place can really be something when it opens.

Add to that Showboat finally announced its plans for how it'll use it's space, the northern end of the Boardwalk will finally have it's life back starting next Spring.

Will it even have a poker room do you think? Hard Rock Vegas has just closed their poker room.

My guess is it will. There are no poker rooms at the north end of the Boardwalk so something tells me they're aware of that. They'll probably utilize the space the Taj room once had in it's entirety and turn it into a nice room.

If they do it correctly, I dare say it could compete with Borgata to become the best room in the city...or possibly even overtake it for the best

That would be great. It's been quite awhile since I've been down but I would enjoy a poker weekend there.

I'm hoping it transforms the city and is a place that makes people travel from other states that already have casinos. I'm hoping that they make it a place that makes people want to go back to Atlantic City just to see the place. Or just because it offers something that NY, PA, MD, CT dont have.

I'll be down there this weekend for poker. Hoping for a better run than I had last time I was there

In addition to the new casinos opening up in upstate NY, I am rooting for the new casinos to open in AC soon...we need some fresh new chips on the east coast!
