GPI gets bought out (3 Viewers)

I did too. But for a different reason. Wtf is an electronic shoe. I do think think I've ever seen one nor do I. I've long wondered about the use of any tech that can identify cards before their play.
Take for example this: (and this is no lie) while in Niagara falls at casino Niagara my buddy and I were sitting playing let it ride. After the cards were dealt the shuffler started blinking a red light. The dealer called over the manager who came over and took it apart. While this is going on I pick up my cards and have three of a kind. Needless to say I made a good bit of money on that. I was scared they were going to call the hand dead because the shuffler malfunctioned.
Now a few hours later at Fallsview and again, at a let it ride table the my buddy shows me his three of a kind.....and wouldn't you know it, the shuffler was flashing a red light again.....too odd to be a coincidence.
My understanding of the electronic shoe is that it simply reads a code on the back of each card to confirm that it is authentic. It's an anti-cheating device.

Regarding the red light on the shuffler, those things jam all the time. It's less believable that you and your buddy had trips in the same session. ;)

Anyone know where AHGK primary markets are and what if any prescense they have in the US for poker chip sales? If they don’t have one they may keep on most of the existing US team?

Angel sells to casinos worldwide, but they're already selling in the retail market, too.

Will they take orders for casino chips from people like us?
Almost a guaranteed 'no' answer to that question.

Casino security issues and concerns, along with the governing body regulations of many of their customers will make it basically impossible to provide the same products to both regulated commercial and home/retail markets.

However, chips that are ~similar~ to casino chips (using different molds, formulas, inlays, colors, and spot patterns) are certainly possible.

GPI has never sold chips directly to the public or retailers, but has accepted large orders in the past from distributors -- which ultimately ended up in the hands of home users.

GPI may not have, but prior to them acquiring Paulson, I recall reading about Paulson retail stores. Here's one thread on it

Everyone talks about wanting custom paulsons but no one ever mentions this. I would be down for it

Yeah, I'd kill for a semi-custom Bud Jones V7 set that I don't have to either take it in the shorts harvesting or pay ridiculous amounts for.

Asia.

"The Kyoto-based firm encompass numerous facilities across Japan and Singapore, in addition to occupying offices in the United States, Macau, Australia and the Philippines."

Odds of GPIC returning to the home market are about as likely as the Fed Reserve printing Monopoly money. Security is huge in the industry, last thing any regulatory body wants is a counterfeiting debacle.

If someone wants to give me 1,000 to 1 odds I’ll take it :)

So everyone is looking at this optimistically for the opportunities it might present. My initial gut reaction was the exact opposite. With new people running the show, chip quality might drop (possibly significantly).

Maybe so low that casinos stop buying from them and they’re forced to go into the home game market. BOOM OPTIMISM’D!

I would assume not.

My reasoning being this: As this is technically a merger that would be an expansion of Angel's base playing card business, I can only assume that GPI would remain mostly unchanged from a corporate structure standpoint. The only real redundancy (and layoff potential) perhaps being some positions at GPI's executive level. And maybe some marketing/creative staff who could also be at risk.

I don't see why Angel would try to muck around in the affairs of GPI's well established security protocols for casino-currency contracts, especially since they have no experience in that business.

Just my $0.02. Which ain't worth much.

If you've been around here awhile, you already know that the one constant in the casino chip industry is change.

Angel sells to casinos worldwide, but they're already selling in the retail market, too.

My questions are, in order:

Will they take orders for casino chips from people like us?
What will they do with GPI's playing card business? (I believe GPI bought Gemaco some time back, and made cards like Superflex and the Gemback casino cards unavailable to anyone but licensed casinos. )

Whatever happens (or doesn't), it will be interesting to watch.

* I'll start saving up for a Paulson KW tourney set :)

Ps. maybe if we use the samurai artwork they say yes ?

While GPI has a deal with AGA about security and reselling restrictions nothing changes. It is not that GPI does not want to sell to homemarket and smaller venues it is a strict demand from AGA for security reasons.

AGA?

AGA = American Gaming Association
