Going to Vegas again. Who here likes the Flamingo? Suggestions? (1 Viewer)

it is a good location but no idea if the rooms or pool are nice.

Cool little poker room though.

Can't beat the location, or the poker room. As far as the hotel itself goes, it's a solid mid level property.

Pool is actually world class and very popular, but I never get there.

It’s my favorite property to stay at. Agree it’s mid level, but location is hard to beat, and the poker room is awesome!

I stay there ... no issues at all and it's in the middle of the strip.

Employees are very friendly there too.

Should be mostly renovated now so there shouldn't be any issues about being in an older tower.

When are you going? I'm staying there Nov. 28-Dec. 5.

Get a seat sale on Swoop out of Hamilton. $118 there, $99 return.

Wife stayed there a couple years ago. They loved the pool, she is all about pools and sun. Said rooms were fine. They just play a little slots so no casino review.

Poker room is cool although it can be smoky compared to some other rooms if you are sensitive.

It's the only room I know of where both clay Paulson and plastic Bud Jones $1 and $5 chips are live in play. You definitely don't see many $1's that are anything other than solid blue these days, but there are still the ocassional oldies to be found. I like the mix of chips, even though it is a bit weird. Other chippers might be very tilted!

Last time I stayed in the Flamingo, I booked a "Go" room. It was clean and modern, which is nice.

Location is great. It wasn't my favorite pool in town, but not the worst either. Personally, I like my pools to be calm and quiet, i.e. free of kids and oonz-oonz music. Your taste may vary. The wildlife habitat is nice for getting a break from the action, and Flamingo poker is one of the best games in town - not for the chips, seats, tables, or service, but the characters that show up there. The Flamingo has some magical allure on attracting drunk players which can make for a memorable game with a home-game vibe.

I've only stayed there once. I was in a Go room. I'm not a fan. The casino is just dumpy to me and I hate the poker room. I didn't get to use the pool.

I'd rather stay at the Linq, Monte Carlo, PH, even Bally's, etc over Flamingo.

You need a time machine to stay at Monte Carlo :)

What is a "go" room?

The "Go" rooms are basically better versions of their standard rooms. From previous reports I've heard, the standard "Fab" rooms were only moderately upgraded (and no renovations on the bathrooms), but the Go rooms got a full remodel. At the time the "Flamingo" rooms did not exist, so I cannot speak on them.

118/99? Damn! That's incredible.

You have to catch a sale but there has been 3 already since Sept. My wife is going with her 3 sisters on Swoop Nov.19-23 but she is staying at Caesar's. Also only the Thurs flight is a red eye, all the rest are good daytime flights.

You won't when you're 50.(n)
Ill second that....today's kids with their oomph, oomph, oomph music blasting out of their rusty Honda civics...why, when I was a kid we had marbles and Mozart. Back when kids had respect! That's what cozying up to the devil will do for your generation...

Be sure to use the $20 trick at check in... almost always get an upgrade ... and that’s even more amazing since most of my nights get comped.

It's becoming harder and harder to get the $20 trick to work these days. I've even seen a hotel (The Plaza) that did away completely with the front desk staff, check-in being done via kiosk. Also, I've read how some properties (Caesars) are pushing back against the trick, requiring the desk clerk to charge for the upgrade.

Basically, If the corporation knows you want to part with $20, they want to be the one collecting it.

Like I said, tastes may vary. Anybody can say "the pool is great" or "the pool sucks". I say why I view it as such. If you bring kids to Vegas, or like the loud music, have at it. I prefer a little quiet, and topless women. Those pools are getting more difficult to find.

There are a ton of those beaches, not pools in central America...jus sayin...(y)

Flamingo is good value for the $$$. Definitely nicer hotels but they cost more. Location is sweet and the poker room is an ATM. With buddies I would definitely stay there. With my wife I'd probably stay at the Aria.

One of my favourite Flamingo Poker Room memories is having a guy get ARRESTED at my 2/4 table because he re-raised me on the river and then tried to claim he didn't when I re-reraised him. It was 4:00 am and he was hammessed whilst I was stone cold sober and 18 hours in to what would be a 24 hour+ stint at the table. He got arrested for giving security the business when they came to resolve the issue. I think he shoved security like an idiot. Once the idiot was secured security came back and politely gave me the neccessary chips. It was a huge pot for 2/4 limit. Great times.

Last two times I was in Vegas I stayed at Cosmopolitan and MGM Grand. Got free upgrade to a suite both times. They were VERY nice! Didn't have any fun, though, besides eating. Spent almost every waking hour of every day doing conference stuff or compiling notes.
