Fugly Chip Thread (1 Viewer)

Came across these today. I'm all for a minimalist look (and that seems to be Gold Coast's "thing") but put a little effort in, guys.

And it was a real casino chip??
Yep. There is a huge (and expensive) market for original brass insert casino chips. Even the brass inserts alone are desireable, with many counterfeits out there due to crazy-high prices people will pay.

It's a landmine-filled arena I've managed to avoid.

Faux edge spots on the oversized inlay that don't even match the actual edge spots on the chip. Wtf...

I looked up this chip in The Chip Guide to confirm that it was not Photoshopped. It's not. The only positive thing that I can say is that the center spots are aligned, more or less.

The photo in The Chip Guide shows that the spots om the inlay are reasonable matches to the inlay.

That LB is like someone said, "let's make a house mold chip" ... And then totally forgot about it until the night before the design was due.

Those chips are still live.

Is that your game? If needed, I can contribute a few decks.
1st 2 are warpy, the 3rd is unopened.
I love the design but never used them.
Edit: I was trying to replace the warped cards (red-blue) but only found that 3rd perfect Red deck.
I think these are unattainable now and the spare red deck has sitting been in the tank 10+ years now.

Seems to be a similar design and edge-spot pattern as this snapper I got from Atlantis in the Bahamas: http://chipguide.themogh.org/cg_chip2.php?id=BSPIAT&v=3329117995. This chip has chunkier spots/lines than the Atlantis one and a slicker plastic texture.

Anyway, I grabbed a barrel of these from the cage at "Casino Atlantic City" in Lima, Peru. Never played there, just wanted poker chips for souvenirs. I got embarrassed giving them away and eventually just kept half of the barrel for a shuffle stack (and they kinda suck for that too).

Even this bad photo makes it look dramatically better than it does IRL. In person, the clash of the two reds is more blech-worthy, and the poor contrast of the lettering makes it harder to read than you'd think from the photo. Not the worst ~$25 I've ever spent, but far from the best.

These inlays are color matched to the base color of a different set. Its just indefensible. Just using random colors would have been better. Playing off of a spot color in each chip would have been much better. A uniform color They ended up with some chips that REALLY clash, the 25 (RIP), 1k, and 25k being the worst.
