Hey all,

After catching the poker bug during COVID, I've been interested for a while in finding a nice set of chips and this place kept coming up. After reading through just about every thread I could view without creating an account, I think I'm finally ready to dip my toes into this community. I'm primarily looking to start up a small-stakes cash game, as well as have a set of chips to use for teaching a few friends and family the ropes of poker. I mostly play low-mid stakes NLHE in casinos (1/3, 2/5, rarely 5/10), but having a casual .25/.50 home game every once in a while would be a nice change of pace. I also would love to dip my toes into some mixed games.

I've already ordered a couple of sample sets from apache for some china clays and card mold ceramics, looking forward to shuffling them at my desk for a few weeks while I decide where to jump in. Currently a student, so budget is limited but I can dream of one day owning a custom CPC set.

Hope to get to know everyone here in the coming weeks/months.

Welcome! Was in your shoes as a student once, good to first start with samples so you don’t jump in too deep into a set you wouldn’t like.

Welcome to the forum!

One forum resource you may want to use to learn mixed games or to help others learn poker is @Mac128k ’s PokerGameDatabase.com :

Thanks, I will have to check it out!
Moved from New York to PA?

New Yorker by birthright, in PA for school (although I've been here so long I probably qualify as a local). I still travel often between NY and PA, stopping for some casino poker action along the way.

Samples have the added advantage of being great fidget toys. My current plan is to dedicate a very small portion of my poker winnings towards a fund to buy a set of chips. I'm very careful about keeping my poker roll separate from my other finances, but I'm thinking about 2% of net winnings over a while should be enough to get started with a small stakes set - so far my running total savings toward my chip fund is about -$40 :)
