I like to do levels of at least 16-18 minutes. That way the button almost always makes a full orbit each level at 2 mins per hand at 8-9 player tables.

For my home games I like 200BB to start so there’s enough stack to play poker without shoving all the time.

I play in a bar tournament with 50BB stacks and 15 minute rounds. Half an hour and ~3 orbits in and you’re at 12BB looking for spots to shove. I get why they do it, but it’s less fun IMO.

T5 base 10/10/7/3 stacks. 15 minute levels. Rebuys for the first 2 hours. I like to keep it at around 4 hours total. Long enough that it doesn’t become a shove fest too early, but short enough that people don’t get weary and restless. It’s a low stakes casual home game we don’t need to play for 7 hours. Also the 2 hour rebuy period ensures that everyone gets a good amount of play and didn’t come over for 15 minutes and done.

This is pretty much my exact structure - and for the same reasons :D

I like to mix it up. Some T25, T100, and T500. They all pretty much run the same with 20 minute levels. With 20K starting stacks on the T25 & T100 and 100K for the T500. Most of the time it’s no re-buys. This gets different chips on the table about every tournament.

We usually play with 6 players and 500 BB (so a really Deep Stack) and double the blinds every 30 minutes. We allow 1 rebuy within the first hour.

How often is someone busting out in the first hour when you still have 250 bb? Seems like it’ll almost never happen.

You are absolutely right. It's actually relatively rare in our round that someone with this stack escalates to having no chips left in the first hour. With the 500 BB and the 30 minutes we usually have nice long evenings. With every whiskey or gin tonic, the decisions become more questionable, so it doesn't end up being too late when we start in the early evening. ;-)
